Job description

East Central District Health Department is hiring a Disease Surveillance Coordinator to support communicable disease surveillance, case investigations, outbreak response, public health reporting, and data management.

This position works with healthcare providers, laboratories, schools, long-term care facilities, and Nebraska DHHS to help monitor disease trends and protect community health.

What You’ll Do
  • Monitor and investigate reportable communicable diseases
  • Review and manage disease reports through NEDSS and other systems
  • Conduct case investigations, interviews, exposure assessments, and contact tracing
  • Maintain accurate case records in state and local surveillance systems
  • Provide disease control education to individuals, providers, schools, and community partners
  • Assist with outbreak investigations and emerging public health threats
  • Participate in public health emergency preparedness and response activities
  • Support public health reporting, performance management, and accreditation efforts
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Nursing, Health Sciences, Community Health, or a related field
  • One year of experience in public health, healthcare, disease surveillance, epidemiology, or a related field

Relevant internship, practicum, or field experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Public Health, or related degree
  • Experience with communicable disease investigations
  • Experience using NEDSS, NESIIS, REDCap, or similar systems
  • Registered Nurse licensure
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills
