Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Disaster Engineering Specialist to perform site inspections, validate infrastructure damage, and develop scopes of work with cost estimates. You will review engineering reports, advise on claim eligibility, and collaborate with applicants through recovery stages.

Domestic travel is required and a FEMA badge is needed. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5 years of in-field experience, or 2 years with professional registration.

• Working knowledge of design applications and technical knowledge.
• Knowledge of technologies and methodologies in the use of construction materials.
• Good organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.

• Ability to adapt to change quickly and remain flexible.

Responsibilities

• Conducts site inspections to validate and record infrastructure damage; takes photos, makes sketches, writes descriptions.
• Develops and reviews scopes of work and cost estimates; checks codes and standards.
• Reviews and analyzes engineering reports, designs, and as-built plans.
• Makes recommendations regarding claim eligibility and hazard mitigation proposals.
• Facilitates applicant meetings and communicates final determinations to applicants.
• Provides analyses, updates, and participates in status meetings with FEMA.
• Occasionally coordinates basic site inspections to support FEMA PA processes.
