Job summary

NYS Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance’s Division of Disability Determinations seeks a Disability Review Psychologist (NY HELPS). Qualifications

• A doctoral degree in psychology, licensure and current registration to practice psychology in New York State.
• Eligible for a lateral transfer or transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law by having one year of permanent competitive service in an appropriate title.
• Non-competitive qualifications: doctoral degree in psychology and NY licensure.

Responsibilities

• Participate as a member of a disability adjudication team in granting or disapproving Social Security claims.
• Evaluate medical and psychological information and interpret tests to ensure accurate documentation and determinations.
• Provide advice to staff in interpretation of medical information and in pursuit of required evidence.
• Advise on needs for consultative examinations and alternative approaches to obtain evidence.
• Coordinate with third-party sources to obtain clarifying information and documentation.
• Train staff in evaluation and interpretation of medical reports and examinations.
