Disability Assistant - Mosaic Early Learning (4574)

Position Summary: Center For Family Services is seeking a Disability Assistant for the Mosaic Early Learning. This individual serves as a Disability Assistant in a classroom setting, assisting the Mosaic Early Learning Teacher with the daily operations of planning, implementation of classroom activities and children's observations, and working with children with disabilities or challenging behaviors while assuring safety and compliance at all times.

Location: Burlington County, NJ

Status: Full Time

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Disability Assistant shares information on a daily basis with classroom staff concerning conversations with parents and/or observations of children, eats with children at mealtimes while supervising the meal area, works on school bus as needed, providing support to the bus driver and bus aid, and notifies bus driver of any safety concerns. This individual provides assistance to the classroom teacher in the classroom and on field trips, serves as a substitute teacher if the teacher or teacher assistant is unavailable, assists in maintaining a clean and organized classroom, and supports other staff in carrying out the plans for children with special needs. The Disability Assistant treats colleagues and students as individuals with respect and dignity, provides leadership to staff, and promotes a sense of agency with co-workers and staff. This individual completes documentation in a timely manner, attends all required staff meetings and activities, and reviews progress in personal development periodically with supervisor. The Disability Assistant is responsible for understanding Head Start standards and local child care licensing regulations.

Requirements:

  • Child Development Assoc. (CDA) or higher is required, AA degree or higher in Special needs or related field preferred
  • Two years' experience working with children with disabilities
  • Maintain First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Must pass CFS criminal background checks, drug screening and physical examination
  • Current driver's license with an excellent driving record of at least three years
  • Vehicle with current insurance and registration
