The Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture.

AgriBusiness Wholesale

Simplot’s Wholesale group reliably supplies crop nutrients, industrial inputs, livestock feed ingredients and silica sand to customers across North America. The business connects phosphate mining, product manufacturing and wholesale distribution to deliver millions of tons of essential products each year. The group serves agriculture, manufacturing, construction and environmental treatment markets, combining deep product expertise with the scale, stability and long-term perspective of a privately held global enterprise.

Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, the Director, Wholesale S&OP and Logistics leads demand and supply planning and truck and rail transportation for Simplot AgriBusiness Wholesale. This role strengthens the tools, processes, governance and cross-functional coordination supporting end-to-end S&OP while driving step-change logistics performance across truck and a large and diverse rail network. The Director integrates commercial priorities, manufacturing capabilities, inventory, transportation and financial outcomes to improve decisions and execution across the value chain.

Key Responsibilities

Wholesale S&OP and Planning

  • Lead the Wholesale S&OP team and continuously improve the end-to-end process, including demand and supply planning, governance, decision rights and follow-through.
  • Establish a single, fact-based view of demand, supply, inventory, capacity, constraints and risk across relevant planning horizons.
  • Improve forecast quality, scenario planning and exception management to focus the organization on timely decisions and measurable actions.
  • Integrate volume, margin, inventory, service, capacity and logistics trade-offs into executable plans.
  • Advance planning tools, data and analytics while developing strong team capability and cross-functional influence.

Wholesale Logistics

  • Lead the Wholesale Logistics team and oversee truck and rail transportation, balancing service, cost, reliability, asset productivity and risk.
  • Provide deep rail leadership across capacity and fleet planning, railcar requirements, positioning and availability to align assets with demand, supply and network needs.
  • Drive disciplined rail asset management and day-to-day operating performance, including cycle times, utilization, velocity, service reliability, demurrage and exception resolution.
  • Develop integrated transportation plans and contingencies for seasonal peaks, network constraints, disruptions and changes in product flow.
  • Embed logistics capacity, constraints, alternatives and economics into sourcing, inventory, customer, production and network decisions across the value chain.
  • Strengthen railroad, carrier and third-party logistics performance through clear expectations, operational visibility, analytics and collaborative improvement.
  • Partner across Commercial, Operations, Procurement, Finance and Customer Service to align plans, surface trade-offs and improve end-to-end execution
Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university in supply chain, operations, business, engineering, finance or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.

Progressive leadership experience in S&OP, demand planning, supply planning, logistics, transportation or broader supply chain management. Candidates should demonstrate success improving an end-to-end S&OP or integrated business planning process across functions and meaningful transportation leadership experience spanning truck and rail. Experience managing rail assets or rail-intensive networks is strongly preferred. Experience in agriculture, commodities, chemicals, manufacturing, distribution or another complex, asset-intensive business is preferred.

Required Certifications

APICS CPIM or CSCP certification is preferred but not required.

Other Information

Effective performers will combine strong knowledge of S&OP and integrated planning with practical transportation and rail-asset expertise. The role requires strong business acumen, analytical capability, change leadership and the ability to influence across Commercial, Operations, Procurement, Finance, Customer Service and other supply chain functions. Success will be reflected in a trusted decision-oriented S&OP process, improved forecast and supply-plan performance, healthier inventory, stronger customer service, reduced transportation cost and variability, improved railcar utilization and cycle time, and earlier integration of logistics economics and constraints into value-chain decisions.
