POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Veterinary Technicians is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the work of veterinary technicians / assistants and support teams across all PetVet locations. This role ensures quality patient care, team member engagement, and compliance with clinical protocols and policies. As a key member of the veterinary leadership team, the Director collaborates closely with veterinarians, clinic managers, and the operations team to support both patient outcomes, vet tech development and a One PetVet mindset.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage veterinary technician leaders across multiple locations.
  • Support hospital managers in conducting regular performance discussions, coaching for improvement, and support of professional development initiatives.

Clinical Operations:

  • Oversee clinical protocols, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with PVCC Medical Leadership to align technician roles and responsibilities with clinic needs.

Learning & Development:

  • Develop and implement training programs for new hires and ongoing education for all technicians.
  • Collaborate with the HR and Ops teams to identify development opportunities, certifications, and other growth avenues for staff.
  • Stay updated on industry standards and clinical advancements to continuously improve team knowledge and skills.

Team Member Engagement & Retention:

  • Promote a positive work culture that values teamwork and professional growth.
  • Conduct regular meetings and surveys to gather feedback and address technician concerns.
  • Work with HR on initiatives to enhance technician engagement and retention.

Performance Management:

  • Establish metrics for evaluating technician aptitude, performance and the quality of patient care.
  • Use data and analytics to monitor performance and make data-driven decisions to improve outcomes.
  • Develop strategies to address performance gaps and enhance team productivity.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and state/federal regulations in all locations.
  • Develop policies and procedures that promote a positive, productive, and efficient work environment.
  • Develop SOPs and tools to support conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with safety and clinical guidelines.

REPORTS TO: Direct – Chief Veterinary Advisor, Indirect – VP, Operations & VP, Learning & Development

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Indirect supervision veterinary technician leads

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in veterinary medicine, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of veterinary software, safety standards, and clinical protocols.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

PREFERENCES:

  • 10 years of experience in veterinary medicine, with 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing large teams across multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated time-management, organization, and delegation abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and demonstrate exemplary decision-making skills.
Pay Range
$150,000$160,000 USD
