Job summary

The Southern Land Company in Nashville seeks a Director of Multi-Family Horticulture to lead landscape performance across its national multifamily portfolio, coordinating with subcontractors and vendors to uphold SLC standards and deliver exceptional resident experiences.

You will work with the SVP of Horticulture and the Director of Seasonal Landscape Design to tackle urban growing conditions, optimize service models, and ensure timely, high‑quality seasonal displays across markets, including

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 8+ years of experience in commercial landscape management, including urban environments.
• Demonstrated experience managing landscape subcontractors across multiple properties.
• Experience at high-end multifamily, commercial, hospitality, or luxury residential properties.
• Valid driver's license; travel up to 50% in the first year.

Responsibilities

• Manage landscape maintenance subcontractors across the portfolio, ensuring scopes, schedules, and quality standards.
• Partner with SVP of Horticulture to evaluate vendors and service models, including rebids and contract structure.
• Write and maintain clear landscape scopes of work; review bids, negotiate contracts, and verify invoices.
• Conduct regular property inspections using standardized punch lists; assign corrective actions and follow through.
• Coordinate with Seasonal Landscape Design to ensure timely seasonal displays.</br>Diagnose urban landscape challenges including heavy foot traffic, low-light courtyards, and wind tunnels.
• Oversee irrigation performance and water management with vendors across climates.
• Coordinate landscape transition for new communities from construction through handoff to maintenance.
• Align landscape priorities with property management, budgets, and resident experience.
• Manage budgets with SVP of Horticulture; identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising standards.
• Coordinate with Marketing ahead of shoots and events to present properties at their best.
• Directly manage Eastern and Western horticulture coordinators; set expectations and accountability.
• Communicate with SVP of Horticulture on property conditions, vendor performance, budgets, and escalations.
