Job summary

WSB, a national engineering firm, is seeking a Director of Transportation Engineering based in Denver, CO. You will lead the transportation practice across Colorado and the Southwest, building a high-performing team and driving revenue through CDOT projects and key partnerships.

You will own regional strategy, oversee project delivery, and coach senior engineers while maintaining strong relationships with clients and agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer license; Colorado licensure preferred.
• 12 to 15 years in transportation engineering across planning, design and delivery.
• Direct CDOT experience or familiarity with CDOT standards and local agency projects.

Responsibilities

• Grow transportation revenue by winning new work with CDOT and regional partners.

As Director, you will be WSBs regional transportation leader in the Southwest and West, and the go-to relationship builder with CDOT, cities, counties, and regional transportation partners. You will own business development, client relationships, and project delivery, turning trusted connections into revenue, backlog, and a high-performing team. With proven systems and support already in place, your focus is on what you do best: building relationships, finding ways to say yes to clients, and growing the region.

What you will do:

• Lead WSBs transportation practice across Colorado and the Southwest/West region, setting regional strategy and growth priorities.
• Grow transportation revenue by winning new work with CDOT, local agencies, and regional transportation partners.
• Build and deepen long-term client relationships, positioning WSB as a trusted partner on Colorados highway, roadway, and multimodal programs.
• Lead pursuits from first conversation to signed contract, including proposals, interviews, and negotiations.
• Find creative paths to yes for clients, including state, federal, and grant funding for transportation projects.
• Translate growth strategy into annual operating plans, team goals, and revenue targets.
• Own the regions financial performance, budgets, and resource planning.
• Plan the work and hire the people to do it, leading workforce planning, recruiting, and compensation for your team.
• Lead, coach, and develop project managers, team leaders, and transportation engineers.
• Provide senior technical direction on transportation deliverables and serve as Engineer of Record on select projects.
• Oversee multi-discipline projects from proposal through closeout, managing risk, schedule, quality, and compliance.
• Represent WSB in industry and professional organizations across the region.

What you will bring:

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration; Colorado licensure preferred
• 12 to 15 years of transportation engineering experience across planning, design, and delivery
• Direct experience working with or for CDOT, including familiarity with CDOT standards, processes, and local agency projects
• A well-rounded transportation background spanning roadway, highway, and multimodal projects
• A strong network across the Colorado transportation community and a proven record of relationship-driven business development
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects
• Based in the Denver metro area, or willing to relocate
