Job description

The Director of Technology & Data Services leads the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of Elevate’s technology platforms and data infrastructure. This role is responsible for overseeing a multidisciplinary team composed of developers, Salesforce engineers, and solution architects (currently 14 team members), ensuring effective delivery of scalable, mission-aligned solutions. The Director drives innovation, system integration, and technical excellence to support Elevate’s climate and equity-focused programs. This role collaborates closely with program, product, and leadership teams to align technical initiatives with organizational strategy.

The Director reports to the Vice President of Technology. This position is remote and is headquartered in Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for all technology and data services functions, including software development, Salesforce architecture, and system integration.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a cross-functional team of developers, engineers, and solution architects.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align technology and data strategies with organizational goals and program needs.
  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of technical solutions that are scalable, secure, and aligned with Elevate’s equity-focused mission.
  • Ensure effective project planning, resourcing, and execution across multiple technical workstreams.
  • Guide the evolution and governance of data architecture, systems architecture, and development practices.
  • Promote best practices in Agile, DevOps, and user-centered design.
  • Champion continuous improvement in team performance, system reliability, and technology adoption.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
  • Manage vendor relationships and technology partnerships as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field; master’s degree preferred
  • At least eight (8+) years of progressive experience in technology leadership roles, including team management
  • Proven experience overseeing software development, Salesforce platform engineering, and enterprise system integration
  • Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps, and cloud-based technologies
  • Experience leading diverse, distributed technical teams in a mission-driven or nonprofit context preferred
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-focused technology solutions
  • Familiarity with platforms and tools such as Salesforce, AWS, Git, Jira, and modern web technologies
Compensation

The total compensation for this position includes health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.), defined contribution benefit (401k with contribution), professional development, generous paid time off policies, and a flexible schedule. This is an exempt individual contributor position with a salary range of $110,000 – $130,000, based on experience.
