Job summary

Form Energy seeks a Director of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting to guide U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting. You will oversee external filings, prepare financial statements and MD&A, and coordinate with filing agents. This role requires a strong public accounting background and deep technical knowledge.

The position partners with Legal, Investor Relations, FP&A and exec leadership. It is a hybrid role with offices in Berkeley, Somerville, or Weirton, three days on-site weekly.

Role Description

Form energy is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Director of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting. In this critical leadership role, you will be the principal subject matter expert for U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting. You will oversee the preparation and filing of all external financial reports, lead complex technical accounting assessments, and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls.

This role requires a proactive leader with a strong public accounting background, deep technical expertise, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with Legal, Investor Relations, FP&A, and executive leadership.

This role is hybrid and will need to work from either our Berkeley, CA, Somerville, MA, or Weirton, WV office 3 days per week.

What you'll do:

• SEC & External Financial Reporting

  • Lead the preparation, review, and filing of all external financial reports in compliance with SEC regulations, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and Proxy Statements.

  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, footnotes, and Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A).

  • Review the financial deliverables for quarterly earnings releases, investor presentations, and script materials, partnering closely with Investor Relations.

  • Manage the XBRL tagging process and coordinate with external filing agents (e.g., Workiva/Wdesk, ActiveDisclosure).

  • Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of EPS, share-based compensation, and equity roll-forwards.

• Technical Accounting & Policy

  • Serve as the company's internal subject matter expert on complex U.S. GAAP matters and emerging accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606, ASC 842, business combinations, debt/equity transactions, and impairment).

  • Research, evaluate, and document technical accounting conclusions in comprehensive whitepapers and accounting memos.

  • Lead the accounting assessment and integration for M&A activities, divestitures, and other strategic corporate transactions.

  • Develop, maintain, and update the company's global accounting policies manual to ensure consistency across the organization.

• Audit, Controls, & Compliance

  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, managing the timeline, deliverables, and resolution of audit issues for quarterly reviews and the annual audit.

  • Maintain and enhance a robust internal control environment over financial reporting to ensure SOX compliance.

  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements to accelerate the financial close and reporting cycle while minimizing risk.

• Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of accounting professionals.

  • Partner with FP&A to ensure accurate forecasting and modeling of complex accounting transactions.

  • Collaborate with the Legal department on SEC filings, proxy materials, and insider trading compliance (Section 16 filings).

What you'll bring:

• Required

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Certification: Active CPA license is strictly required.

  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 4-5 years at a Big 4 or top-tier public accounting firm.

  • Public Company Expertise: Direct experience managing SEC reporting and technical accounting for a publicly traded organization.

  • Technical Mastery: Deep, practical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX 404 compliance.

  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex accounting concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-accounting executives.

  Preferred

  • Experience with financial reporting software (Oracle, Workiva).

  • Prior experience navigating the technical accounting implications of acquisition, financing offerings, fixed asset accounting, cost accounting, and revenue accounting policies.

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with high visibility to the C-suite and Audit Committee.
