Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior technical accounting leader in Raleigh, NC. You will own complex accounting areas, draft memos, and coordinate with external specialists for impairment and fair value analyses. You will monitor GAAP developments, drive policy updates, and liaise with auditors to close audit items.

The role requires CPA, 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, and Big 4 background. Strong Excel and cross-functional collaboration are essential in a fast-paced public company

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting required.
• CPA certification required.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably public accounting.
• Experience with Big 4 or large national firm is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own technical accounting areas: investments, goodwill, intangibles, debt/equity, SBC, leases.
• Prepare and review technical accounting memos.
• Coordinate with external valuation specialists for impairment and fair value analyses.
• Monitor GAAP developments and assess new pronouncements.
• Lead cross-functional adoption memos and policy updates.
• Maintain technical accounting policies aligned with GAAP and operations.
• Liaise with external auditors to close audit items timely.
• Advise FP&A, Legal, HR on accounting implications of transactions.
• Lead process improvements, including AI-assisted research and drafting.
• Maintain SOX controls and ensure audit readiness.
• Draft complex disclosures for GAAP/SEC reporting.
• Supervise and coach team, ensuring audit-ready documentation.

Job description

• Serve as the primary technical accounting owner for complex and judgment-intensive areas, including investments, goodwill, intangibles, debt and equity transactions, stock-based compensation, capitalized software, and leases


• Prepare and review technical accounting memos


• Coordinate with external valuation specialists for impairment assessments and fair value analyses


• Monitor accounting standard-setting developments and assess new and proposed accounting pronouncements


• Lead cross-functional implementation efforts, including adoption memos and accounting policy updates


• Establish, maintain, and refresh technical accounting policies in accordance with GAAP and business operations


• Act as a liaison with external auditors and drive timely closure of audit items


• Advise FP&A, Legal, HR, and other teams on accounting implications of transactions and strategic initiatives


• Lead scalable process improvements, including the use of AI tools for research, drafting, and documentation


• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and ensure SOX compliance


• Draft and review complex financial statement disclosures for GAAP and SEC reporting compliance


• Supervise, coach, and review team members' work, ensuring complete, well-supported, audit-ready documentation


• Report to the Sr. Director, Assistant Controller

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting


• CPA required


• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience


• Public accounting experience required, potentially combined with public company experience


• Experience at a Big 4 or large national firm may be included in the background


• Track record of independently researching and authoring detailed technical accounting memos that withstand audit scrutiny


• Experience monitoring and leading implementation of new accounting pronouncements, from impact assessment through policy and process changes


• Self-starter able to identify issues proactively, work through ambiguity, and drive matters to resolution with minimal oversight


• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate complex accounting concepts clearly in writing and conversation


• Strong to advanced Excel skills


• Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and shifting priorities in a fast-paced, public company environment
