Job summary

BNY Mellon is seeking a Senior Manager - Technical Accounting to provide expert accounting guidance across broker-dealer and capital market transactions, consolidations, and revenue/expense recognition. You will research complex standards, develop recommendations, and present to business leadership.

The role requires a Bachelor's in accounting and a CPA (or equivalent), with 12-15 years of experience in financial services or with the Big 4.

Qualifications

  • 12–15 years in financial services or Big 4 background.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting standards.

Provides technical accounting and advisory services to BNY Mellon businesses and controllers related to highly complex accounting matters such as broker dealer and capital market transactions, acquisitions & dispositions, consolidations, impairments, hedge accounting, financial instruments valuation and revenue /expense recognition. Conducts research and evaluation of complex technical accounting matters, valuation, and unique transactions. Develops recommendations on how BNY Mellon should treat transactions and other complex accounting matters in accordance with applicable standards. Presents recommendations to business leadership. Reviews complex accounting judgments included in BNY Mellon's quarterly and annual reports. Interacts with external auditors and answers questions regarding accounting methodology. Develops documentation and provides guidance on complex accounting matters regarding BNY Mellon's treatment of transactions and related assumptions and judgments. Monitors activities of accounting standard setting bodies (i.e., SEC, FASB, and IASB). Analyzes operational and financial impact of proposed and adopted accounting standards and supports the development of BNY Mellon positions on evolving accounting matters. No direct reports,, provides guidance to less experienced team members and may be leader on project teams. Supports the achievement of team objectives. Modified based upon local regulations/requirements. Bachelor's degree in accounting and CPA or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 12-15 years of total work experience, in financial services and/or with the Big 4 accounting firms, is preferred. Base salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
