Hanwha Convergence USA seeks a Director of Systems & Controls to provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership for utility-scale SCADA, PPC, solar, BESS and hybrid projects across multiple sites.

You will serve as the primary technical interface for customers and key partners, translating requirements into engineering deliverables, building a high-performing team, and guiding execution from proposal through closeout.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Automation engineering or related field.
  • 15+ years in utility-scale renewable energy, automation, SCADA, or systems integration.
  • 7+ years leading multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
  • Experience with customer-facing roles and major stakeholders.

Job description

The Director, Systems & Controls provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership to build and scale the Systems & Controls organization supporting utility-scale SCADA, Plant Power Controller (PPC), solar, BESS, and hybrid power plant projects.

This senior customer-facing leader serves as a primary technical interface for strategic customers, EPC contractors, Owners, Independent Engineers, developers, utilities, and other project stakeholders. The Director translates customer requirements into technical solutions and engineering deliverables while coordinating across Engineering, Software, Procurement, Commissioning, Project Management, and Business Development.

The Director will establish the organization’s structure, technical capabilities, engineering standards, governance, execution processes, and talent pipeline. The role will identify organizational and technical gaps, implement scalable solutions, develop talent, and build a high-performing team capable of supporting multiple concurrent projects.

The Director will also support strategic business development, customer qualification, vendor registration, supplier qualification, and Approved Vendor List (AVL) activities.

Organizational Leadership
  • Lead and scale the Systems & Controls organization supporting SCADA, PPC, controls, and systems integration.
  • Define organizational structure, roles, responsibilities, operating model, technical capabilities, and performance expectations.
  • Establish engineering standards, governance, accountability, and scalable execution processes.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain engineering, controls, SCADA, automation, and project execution personnel.
  • Identify organizational, technical, and resource gaps and implement improvement plans.
  • Build a team capable of supporting concurrent utility-scale solar, BESS, and hybrid projects.
  • Establish metrics for engineering quality, project execution, schedule, commissioning readiness, and customer satisfaction.
Strategic Customer Leadership
  • Serve as a senior customer-facing leader throughout SCADA, PPC, controls, and systems integration projects.
  • Build relationships with EPC contractors, Owners, developers, Independent Engineers, utilities, and strategic stakeholders.
  • Lead executive customer meetings, technical workshops, project reviews, and strategic discussions.
  • Translate customer requirements into clear, actionable internal requirements and engineering deliverables.
  • Manage customer expectations and resolve technical, project, organizational, and execution concerns.
  • Lead or support critical customer escalations, recovery plans, and long-term relationship development.
Technical Leadership & Systems Integration
  • Provide technical leadership for SCADA, PPC, communication networks, plant controls, solar, BESS, hybrid power plants, and systems integration.
  • Gather, review, validate, and document customer technical requirements.
  • Ensure requirements are translated into complete and executable engineering deliverables.
  • Lead technical clarification meetings during proposals, design, execution, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Coordinate customer review and approval of engineering documents, control philosophies, communication architectures, functional specifications, and technical deliverables.
  • Establish technical standards and best practices for Systems & Controls project execution.
  • Ensure deliverables meet contractual, technical, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Provide senior technical guidance on complex integration issues and critical challenges.
Project Execution & Communication
  • Facilitate communication between Engineering, Software, Procurement, Project Management, Commissioning, field teams, and customers.
  • Translate customer requests into clear tasks and deliverables.
  • Track action items and ensure ownership, resolution, and closure.
  • Lead or support customer meetings and maintain agendas, minutes, action items, and follow-up.
  • Oversee engineering, procurement, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and closeout milestones.
  • Coordinate activities supporting Mechanical Completion (MC), Substantial Completion (SC), Commercial Operation Date (COD), and other contractual milestones.
  • Identify schedule risks and coordinate recovery and mitigation plans.
  • Escalate overdue deliverables and unresolved issues before they impact customer commitments.
Deliverables, Commissioning & Risk Management
  • Oversee customer-facing engineering and commissioning deliverables through final approval.
  • Coordinate RFIs, technical submittals, customer comments, and engineering inquiries.
  • Ensure appropriate technical and quality review before customer submission.
  • Drive timely resolution of customer comments and commissioning issues.
  • Ensure documentation is complete, approved, and aligned with field execution requirements.
  • Provide senior coordination during FAT, SAT, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Lead resolution of significant customer technical inquiries and project execution issues.
  • Facilitate root-cause analysis and corrective actions for engineering, software, controls, integration, and commissioning challenges.
  • Identify technical, schedule, organizational, and execution risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Oversee customer-requested scope changes and assess impacts to scope, schedule, resources, technical requirements, and commercial commitments.
  • Capture lessons learned and incorporate improvements into future projects.
  • Lead vendor registration, supplier qualification, and AVL activities with customers, EPCs, developers, utilities, and Owners.
  • Position the company’s SCADA, PPC, and systems integration solutions for customer AVL and preferred supplier programs.
  • Coordinate technical, quality, safety, commercial, organizational, and project documentation required for qualification.
  • Participate in customer capability assessments, technical due diligence, supplier audits, and qualification meetings.
  • Develop qualification packages, capability presentations, project references, and compliance documentation.
  • Partner with Business Development and Sales on strategic accounts, technical sales, proposals, customer qualification, and market entry.
  • Identify market trends, customer requirements, technology developments, and competitive opportunities.
  • Recommend investments in talent, technology, tools, engineering capabilities, and processes to support growth.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in utility-scale renewable energy, industrial automation, SCADA, PPC, power plant controls, systems integration, or related engineering fields.
  • 7+ years leading engineering, controls, SCADA, automation, project execution, or multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Experience managing utility-scale solar, BESS, SCADA, PPC, industrial automation, or systems integration projects.
  • Experience working directly with customers, EPC contractors, Owners, developers, Independent Engineers, utilities, or major project stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of utility-scale project execution, including MC, FAT, SAT, SC, COD, and project closeout.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational improvement, restructuring, team development, technical capability enhancement, or significant organizational change.
  • Strong technical understanding of SCADA, PPC, communication networks, plant controls, and systems integration.
  • Experience with engineering document review and approval using Procore, Aconex, SharePoint, or similar platforms.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, customer management, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and aggressive schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience rebuilding, restructuring, or scaling an engineering, SCADA, PPC, controls, automation, or project execution organization.
  • Director, Senior Manager, Engineering Manager, or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Senior customer-facing technical or business leadership experience in utility-scale renewable energy or industrial automation.
  • Executive relationships with EPC contractors, Owners, developers, utilities, Independent Engineers, and strategic customers.
  • Experience with vendor registration, supplier qualification, AVL registration, or preferred supplier programs.
  • Experience with customer qualification packages, capability assessments, technical due diligence, supplier audits, or vendor prequalification.
  • Experience supporting Business Development, strategic accounts, technical sales, proposals, or market entry.
  • Experience recruiting and developing multidisciplinary engineering and project execution teams.
  • Experience developing engineering standards, technical governance, organizational processes, and scalable project execution systems.
  • Experience with utility-scale solar, BESS, and hybrid power plant SCADA/PPC projects.
  • Knowledge of utility communication protocols, SCADA architectures, plant controls, grid integration, and renewable energy controls.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry, utility, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with project controls and scheduling software.
  • Strong professional network within the U.S. utility-scale renewable energy industry highly preferred.

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and use standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move materials up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
