Description

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the development and positioning of AMPP as a trusted voice on sustainability and sustainable development topics related to materials protection and performance. This role will coordinate strategy and messaging to align AMPP activities with sustainable development goals, develop products and services to enhance AMPP's influence and thought leadership, and support stakeholders in achieving their sustainability goals. It will serve as a visible leader within industry and member groups on sustainability issues, fostering active technical communities. Initially, there are no direct reports, but high cross-department collaboration is essential.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:


  • Building relationships with stakeholders across industry, government, research organizations, and NGOs to ensure AMPP's active participation in sustainable development activities.

  • Serving as a thought leader for AMPP in sustainability, developing position papers, case studies, and talking points.

  • Planning and developing systems and processes to connect AMPP's offerings with sustainable development goals.

  • Advocating for the inclusion of materials protection and performance in UN SDGs, ESG standards, and related regulations.

  • Collaborating with members to develop consensus on sustainability standards and frameworks.

  • Supporting the development of standards, scorecards, technical communities, policy research, and events aligned with sustainable development.

  • Maintaining professional communication with all levels within AMPP and externally to promote a positive brand image and organizational goals.

  • Representing AMPP in external groups, committees, and projects.

  • Promoting sustainability within AMPP's operations.

  • Serving as an internal consultant on sustainability topics for other departments.

  • Hiring, developing, and inspiring talent to meet organizational goals, aligning with AMPP culture and values.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for supervising staff in accordance with organizational policies and laws, including hiring, training, performance appraisal, rewards, discipline, and conflict resolution.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

20-30% travel expected; a passport is required.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in a related field is required; advanced degrees and experience with membership organizations, NGOs, regulatory agencies, or policy organizations are preferred. Relevant fields include engineering, environmental sciences, sustainable development, or public policy. A minimum of 5 years' managerial experience is required. Knowledge of UN SDGs, reporting standards like GRI, CDP, and familiarity with sustainability programs like LEED or Envision are highly preferred.


MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Strong leadership qualities are essential, including confidence, professionalism, maturity, and integrity. Responsibilities include hiring, training, performance management, and conflict resolution. The ideal candidate will exemplify a culture of accountability, strategic thinking, entrepreneurial skills, adaptability, open communication, dedication to AMPP's mission, and a results-oriented mindset.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent communication skills, mathematical and reasoning abilities, and proficiency in digital communication tools are required. The ability to work in a multi-task environment and learn association-specific software is essential.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to perform typical office tasks, including using hands, sitting, standing, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Vision and focus abilities are also necessary.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
