The Supply Management organization plays a critical role in supporting this mission by ensuring the effective sourcing, delivery, and supplier management of goods and services. The Director of Supply Management is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing category strategies, optimizing procurement performance, and delivering measurable business value.

Initially focused on logistics services, the Director will have responsibility for a portfolio representing approximately $100 million in annual spend. The role leads the sourcing, negotiation, and management of key supplier relationships while driving procurement initiatives that improve cost effectiveness, supplier performance, resilience, service quality, and overall mission impact.

Reporting to the Chief Procurement Officer, the Director leads and develops a high-performing team, while also remaining actively engaged in the work. This is a hands‑on leadership role: The Director is expected to personally lead complex and high‑value negotiations; review, propose, negotiate and approve contracts and commercial terms; resolve supplier and contractual issues; and provide senior‑level procurement guidance to business stakeholders. The Director partners across the organization to align procurement priorities with business needs, manage risk, and drive successful execution.

As a data‑driven leader, the Director leverages analytics, market intelligence, and emerging technologies to inform sourcing decisions, enhance category management, and anticipate, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks. Working closely with stakeholders across supply management, legal, finance, and business operations, this role combines strategic vision with hands‑on execution to deliver results, support transformational initiatives, and advance the organization’s mission.

The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States.

Responsibilities

The Director of Supply Management has a broad scope of leadership responsibilities and accountabilities that may evolve as organizational priorities change. Key areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing supply management team, fostering collaboration, engagement and alignment with organizational goals.
• Provide strategic leadership for assigned categories, projects, and initiatives within supply management, serving as a key member of the management team and primary liaison to business units and corporate functions.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with internal business clients and key partners (e.g., Legal, Risk Management), ensuring a deep understanding of business needs to proactively anticipate requirements and support effective work planning and execution.
• Anticipate market shifts, supply chain risks, and organizational needs by leveraging data, dashboards, and performance metrics to keep leadership informed, guide decision‑making, and adapt strategies proactively or as challenges emerge.
• Develop and execute category and sourcing strategies in partnership with stakeholders, translating business needs into actionable plans that deliver measurable year‑over‑year value through improved financial performance, service quality, operational efficiency, risk reduction and mission impact.
• Develop negotiation strategies and negotiate contracts and agreements to secure favorable commercial terms, quality and service standards, reliable supply, and appropriate risk mitigation.
• Partner with stakeholders to ensure the end‑to‑end procurement process, from requisition through delivery, functions effectively, delivering compliance, timeliness, cost efficiency and organizational value.
• Monitor supplier performance, assess and manage associated risks, resolve disputes, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement based on data, market trends, benchmarking and evolving business needs.
• Lead and or manage cross‑functional projects and initiatives, applying strong project management, organization, and prioritization skills to drive execution, meet deadlines and deliver measurable business value.
• Perform other duties and take on special assignments as needed to support organizational priorities and advance the mission.

Scope: Establish operating policies and procedures that affect departments and subordinate sections and work units. Interpret company‑wide policies and procedures. Develop budgets, schedules, and performance standards.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum Qualifications)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field required

Experience: 7 years of progressively responsible supply chain management or procurement experience. 10+ years preferred.

Staff Management: 5 years minimum. 7+ preferred.

Travel: 25%- domestic travel may be required

Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated expertise in strategic sourcing, category management, contracting, negotiation, supply chain risk management and supplier relationship management.
• Strategic and critical thinker with a curious, analytical mindset and demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action, navigate obstacles, drive accountability and deliver measurable results in a complex and changing environment.
• Proven leadership and team development skills, with adept influencing skills and the ability to build productive, collaborative relationships across functions that enable execution and results.
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver clear presentations and stakeholder communications. Daily appearance on video for meetings is a requirement for this position.
• Highly organized, adaptable, and able to guide teams through high‑pressure, deadline‑driven situations.
• Strong problem‑solving, financial, commercial and business acumen, with the ability to understand business and supplier economics, evaluate trade‑offs, and translate analysis into actionable recommendations and decisions.
• Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and comfort managing through ambiguity.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including ability to analyze complex data and financial information; strong proficiency in PowerPoint and other Microsoft 365 applications used for executive communication, collaboration, and business management.

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE (Preferred Qualifications)

• Direct experience in supply management for logistics and transportation services within the U.S. market
• Advanced degree and/or relevant professional certification (e.g., CPM, CPSM, CIRM, CPIM, etc.)
• Prior experience working in a complex, matrixed organization with multiple business units and cross‑functional stakeholders.
• Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Certification cannot be substituted).

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods of time. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.

Pay Information

The annual salary range for this position is $125K - $155K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.
