Job Details

Provide vision and leadership for student life and engagement. Oversee and direct the areas of student activities, student organization management, leadership development, and orientation. Ensure the delivery of quality and effective programs and services to support the overall well-being and success of students in the college environment. Oversee, develop, and implement a comprehensive plan for competency-based activities and initiatives for students throughout Thomas Jefferson University Colleges and academic programs. Lead and initiate a collaborative leadership development program, including completion of baseline needs assessment and ongoing program evaluation.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  1. Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  2. Lead the creation, implementation, and facilitation of opportunities for extracurricular and co-curricular student engagement.
  3. Lead and implement equitable support and allocation of resources for students of diverse backgrounds and identities.
  4. Supervise the professional, administrative, and student staff, including Assistant and Associate Directors.
  5. Manage the development, planning, and execution of student activities programming, including creating goals, programmatic models, and new initiatives each year.
  6. Manage the office budget, operational allocation, purchases, and other financial transactions.
  7. Lead strategic planning, goal setting, assessment, and evaluation efforts for the office.
  8. Coordinate communication and engagement with campus partners, vendors, students, and staff, aligning with the core values of the University.
  9. Manage the activities of the Student Advisory Roundtable, including recruiting members, scheduling meetings, developing agendas, and overseeing activities.
  10. Demonstrate commitment to detail, systemization of processes, and understanding of complex enterprise structures.
  11. Support a healthy team dynamic by remaining agile and demonstrating emotional intelligence to support team members holistically.
  12. Oversee data collection, analysis, maintenance, and presentation related to student growth and engagement initiatives.
  13. Provide direction for the support, compliance, and accountability of student organizations and committees.
  14. Lead marketing and communication efforts for the Office of Student Life and Engagement, including managing the website, social media, publications, flyers, email, and other advertisement modes.
  15. Advocate for student needs and work to create positive change.
  16. Create programs and services that contribute to a positive student experience.
  17. Develop and maintain campus and community partnerships.
  18. Lead department committees to enhance the Campus Life experience.
  19. Utilize data to inform decisions and program planning, considering higher education trends and diverse student needs.
  20. Manage content for the Student Life and Engagement webpage in collaboration with Marketing and Public Relations.
  21. Lead the extension of services to satellite campuses as directed.
  22. Participate in regional and national student affairs professional organizations.
  23. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

Advanced understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, video media production, Banner, and more; data-driven decision making; crisis management; budget management; innovative student programming; marketing and communication planning; collaboration; cultural competence; student-centric approach; leadership development theory; artificial intelligence awareness; understanding of university trends; knowledge of government policies and student affairs best practices; complex relationship building; advocacy.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • Minimum master's degree in student development, organizational leadership, counseling, or higher education administration.

AND

Experience:

  • At least 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in student life and development, including direct supervision of professional and student staff.
