The Director of Strategic Accounts is a key leadership role within the Optum Financial Payer Strategy & Management Team that will be responsible for managing ongoing and/or new client relationships for the directed spend business and driving high-quality service delivery and client satisfaction through proactive service management. This individual will help to expand the Payer Strategy organization supporting the world’s largest healthcare companies within a highly strategic account management process. The Director of Strategic Account is positioned to be the quarterback of the account team. This individual will lead the team to build relationships with payer clients and then represent the client’s strategic goals internally. This role will include facilitation of intra-enterprise partnerships and alignment to support innovation necessary to sustain and advance payer strategy while fostering solid employee satisfaction and development through the continued rapid growth of the organization. Key metrics for the Payer Strategy & Management Team include client retention, renewal revenue, and client engagement and satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver best-in-class partnership management for key clients within Optum Financial’s directed spend business
  • Understand payer business priorities and align them with Optum Financial capabilities and assets
  • Direct teams in resolution of business problems that impact multiple stakeholders including clients and internal cross-functional teams
  • Strategic leadership for product, service and/or process decisions impacting client accounts
  • Day-to-day management within the Payer Strategy & Management Team to optimize efficiency and accountability
  • Serve as an escalation point for high impact issues
  • Represent client management in internal initiatives, cascade information and drive communication strategies within
  • Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and direction through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff
  • Report and track client health/risk and deliver executive summary
  • Annual reviews for team members and annual peer reviews
  • Manage a team to establish a trusted/strategic advisor relationship with each assigned client and drive continued value of solutions
  • Monitor and guide team toward achievement of ongoing revenue retention and optimal customer satisfaction metrics
  • Oversee engagement with new customers during implementation to drive alignment and production success
  • Recruit, hire and monitor performance of Associate Director(s); ensuring appropriate training and development is provided to newly hired employees, providing ongoing training of staff, supporting networking and engagement across the organization
  • Analyze data, review reports, and make recommendations to leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience as a leader with accountability for relationship management, customer success, and high-performing team management
  • 5+ years developing and executing strategies for a function or discipline that spans a large business unit or multiple markets/sites
  • 5+ years of experience implementing processes and tools to enhance partner relationships
  • 5+ years of experience leading communication strategies to internal and external clients via written and verbal communication
  • 5+ years of experience presenting internally and to clients
  • 5+ years of experience in Microsoft office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare experience
  • Medicaid experience
  • Payments or FinTech experience
  • Experience in operations, solutions, or technology role
  • Solid understanding of corporate organizational structures and buying processes
  • Proven detail oriented and analytical
  • Proven solid team player but still a self-starter
  • Proven ability to motivate team members and foster a very positive team environment
  • Proven ability to thrive in a multi-tasking environment and can adjust priorities on-the-fly

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
