Job summary

J.Crew Group is seeking a Director of Engineering, Software Development, to deliver innovative Retail and In-Store experiences for JCrew Group. You will partner with business, Product, Store, Development, QE and support teams to define technology strategy.

Reporting to the SVP of Engineering, you will vet product ideas, work closely with our business partners and facilitate design and delivery of the best technology solutions.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role (Director experience preferred).
• At least 7 years of software engineering experience with expertise in building retail applications.
• Track record of hiring engineers and contributing to their growth.
• Experience with POS and in-store client experiences; familiarity with technical design and architecture.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience managing remote teams and cloud-based platforms.

Responsibilities

• Define technology strategy for software engineering across multiple tracks.
• Collaborate with executives and stakeholders to execute a technology roadmap.
• Manage geographically distributed teams to deliver high-quality products within budget.

The Role + Purpose:

As a Director of Engineering, Software Development, your goal is to help deliver the most innovative and intuitive Retail and In-Store experiences for JCrew Group. You will partner with business, Product, Store, Development, QE and support teams to help define Jcrew’s technology strategy. Reporting to the SVP of Engineering, you will vet product ideas, work closely with our business partners and facilitate design and delivery of the best technology solutions. You will have the opportunity to develop applications that impact millions of clients in the North America region. Your focus is going to be on the engineering excellence not limited to one vertical, but is generic and can be expanded to e-commerce Technology, Order Management Solutions, Marketing Platforms, Mobile applications and other portfolios as deemed appropriate. Role is expected to be on-site 3 days a week and is located at the NYC HQ

Your responsibilities include:

• Define technology strategy for software engineering across different tracks.
• Collaborate with key executives and technology stakeholders to create and execute technology roadmap, balancing competing interests and needs across the organization to arrive at a clear vision
• Manage geographically distributed teams to deliver products with high quality and within the stipulated budget
• Influence and inform resources and partners whom you do not directly manage and communicate effectively to get alignment on requirements and decisions
• Directly manage a talented team of engineers
• Contribute to the overall system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability and performance of different technology stacks that’s spans across different domains.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role (previous Director experience preferred)
• At least 7 years of software engineering experience with expertise in building retail applications
• A strong track record of hiring stellar engineers and contribute to their career growth
• Deep experience in the development of POS, mobile POS applications (preferably Oracle Xstore), Clientelling applications with an understanding and ability to create technical designs, Architecture and in-store client experiences
• Experience as a strong leader who can think strategically and grow the team rapidlyThe ability to build strong relationships, communicate effectively and collaborate well with cross-functional teams.
• flexible with regards to changing priorities & business needs and switching between domains as needed.
• Good knowledge in store operations and experiences
• Experience in building service-oriented applications ( Micro Services )
• Computer Science degree is a plus
• Experience in managing remote teams
• Working knowledge in Java tech stack along with databases like Oracle / MS SQL / No-SQLs and Paas and Saas Platforms
• Have good knowledge on cloud applications ( AWS, Azure, GCP )
