Position Overview

The Director of Spiritual Care and Wellness is responsible for developing, directing, and evaluating the mission, vision, operations, resources, and endowments related to spiritual care and wellness initiatives for patients, families, and staff at Penn Medicine Princeton Health (PMPH). This role provides spiritual care and wellness support to administrative executives, collaborates with leadership to assess staff needs, and leads programs and initiatives to enhance holistic care and staff well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Supervise department personnel including administrative, educational, clinical, and support staff.
  2. Identify and pursue opportunities for spiritual care and wellness to impact patient and staff experience, documenting outcomes.
  3. Develop relationships with community partners to support spiritual and wellness needs.
  4. Coordinate and lead community outreach efforts addressing holistic wellness issues.
  5. Provide direct supervision and education to Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) students.
  6. Support spiritual care research projects for publication.
  7. Provide direct chaplaincy support to patients, families, and staff.
  8. Partner with leadership to support specific programs, such as the Cancer Center and staff wellness initiatives.
  9. Address staff needs related to compassion fatigue, burnout, and spiritual distress.
  10. Engage with community and faith organizations to meet diverse spiritual needs.
Credentials and Qualifications
  • Clinical Pastoral Educator certification (Required)
  • ACPE Certification or progress toward certification
  • Ordination or endorsement by a recognized clergy group
Education and Experience
  • Master of Arts or Science degree (Required)
  • Spiritual Care specialization, such as M.Div. or equivalent
  • 3+ years of clergy and/or non-profit leadership experience
  • 2+ years of post-graduate chaplaincy training (CPE internship/residency)
  • 3+ years of management experience in healthcare setting
  • 3+ years of chaplaincy experience in healthcare setting
