The role leads an interdisciplinary team spanning computer science, engineering, math, biophysics and biology to advance single-molecule research and enable non-experts to adopt these methods in their pipelines. The successful candidate will drive technical innovation, mentor staff, and cultivate collaborations within St.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required.
• Ph.D. in physical sciences with extensive post-graduate experience is highly desirable.
• Experience leading mid-large sized teams and cross-disciplinary collaboration is preferred.
• Software engineering experience with MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, and C++ is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Direct Center activity day-to-day, ensuring staff are efficiently tasked and data is managed.
• Lead planning and implementation of experimental strategies and next-generation instruments.
• Oversee development of software tools for instrument control, data analysis, and project management.
• Lead high-impact collaborations with St. Jude laboratories to apply single-molecule methods across diverse biological systems.
• Lead internal projects advancing single-molecule methods, including instrumentation and data analysis innovations.
• Establish policies to maximize Center productivity and instrument uptime.
• Manage SMC staff with diverse technical backgrounds.
• Participate in seminars and conferences to disseminate knowledge and recruit talent.
