Job summary

Howden Re in the United States is seeking a Senior Contract Drafter to create and maintain advanced reinsurance contract documentation for complex accounts, collaborating with brokers, clients and reinsurers.

You will interpret contracts, provide technical guidance on reinsurance concepts, and support RFPs and presentations while upholding best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent experience.
  • Law degree (J.D.) helpful but not required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with reinsurance contracts.
  • Extensive MS Word experience and expertise.
  • Experience with Adobe and Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Create, develop and maintain reinsurance contract documentation for complex accounts.
  • Draft reinsurance contracts, interests and liabilities agreements with brokers, clients and reinsurers.
  • Interpret contracts and perform QA to reflect negotiations.
  • Provide technical guidance on reinsurance concepts and contract language.
  • Participate in RFPs and sales presentations, recommending coverage and wording.
  • Promote and maintain relationships with brokers, clients and reinsurers.
  • Understand issues, resolve problems and review working practices.
  • Monitor industry developments through news, webinars, committees and conferences.
  • Participate in department meetings and share ideas to maintain best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities


  • As a Senior Contract Drafter, you will create, develop and maintain reinsurance contract documentation for some of the most complex client accounts and use your comprehensive knowledge of insurance/reinsurance concepts to assist broker teams with myriad projects.

  • Draft reinsurance contracts, interests and liabilities agreements and related documents in coordination with brokers, clients and reinsurers.

  • Interpret and assess contracts and perform quality assurance review to ensure contract wording reflects intent of reinsurance negotiations.

  • Provide technical guidance to colleagues, brokers, clients and reinsurers as appropriate regarding reinsurance concepts and contract language application.

  • Participate in Request for Proposal and sales presentations by recommending coverage and wording enhancements.

  • Promote, build and maintain relationships with brokers, clients and reinsurers.

  • Understand issues, resolve problems and review working practices.

  • Monitor industry developments through news, webinars, committees and conferences.

  • Participate in department meetings to share opinions, ideas, knowledge and solutions, and work to maintain best practices.

  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Four Year College Degree (B.S. or B.A.) or equivalent experience

  • Law Degree (J.D.) helpful but not required

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with reinsurance contracts required

  • Extensive MS Word experience and expertise

  • Experience with Adobe and Microsoft Office products

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Legally authorized to work in the US


Compensation


  • $150,000-$200,000 annual base salary plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
