The Position

Are you a Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) leader who excels at balancing strategic program management with active, daily engagement on the lab floor? We are seeking a technical Director of SHE, Facilities & Security to lead our site's resilience, regulatory compliance, and workplace safety culture. In this role, you will bridge site-level resilience with corporate strategy, guiding a small, dedicated team while working directly alongside our leadership, scientists, and facility staff to maintain a safe, resilient, and compliant research environment. If you bring 12+ years of progressive operational leadership in life sciences and a track record of driving business-aligned safety and facilities programs, we invite you to lead our team.

The Opportunity
  • Strategic & Regulatory Leadership: Translate global directives, quality standards, and national/international regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, REACH, NFPA) into seamless, business-enabling local site policies.
  • Executive Collaboration & Business Alignment: Represent SHE on site leadership teams and committees to influence corporate policy, align cross-functional business units, and support site expansion and product development initiatives.
  • Facilities & Critical Infrastructure Management: Oversee end-to-end site maintenance, facilities engineering, and capital projects while ensuring 100% operational readiness of critical power systems, emergency generators, and monitoring solutions.
  • Business Continuity & Incident Command: Drive site-wide disaster recovery frameworks, serving as the primary Safety Officer and Incident Commander during facility disruptions, environmental events, and emergencies.
  • Comprehensive SHE Portfolio Ownership: Lead a high‑complexity safety portfolio, including industrial hygiene, biosafety (BSL 1 & 2), chemical safety assessments, exposure monitoring, dangerous goods logistics, and hazardous waste management for a Large Quantity Generator.
  • Inspection Readiness & Regulatory Governance: Direct all official interactions, reporting, and audits with municipal, federal, and international regulatory bodies to ensure the site maintains perpetual "inspection readiness".
  • Team Leadership & Capability Building: Direct, mentor, and develop a small high‑performing, team fostering technical growth, and driving a proactive safety culture.
Who You Are
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physical/Life Sciences, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (Master’s degree strongly preferred).
  • Professional Credentials: Professional certification highly preferred (e.g., Certified Safety Professional [CSP], Certified Industrial Hygienist [CIH], or Professional Engineer [PE]).
  • Operational Leadership: 12+ years of progressive operational management experience within diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or high‑complexity industrial environments.
  • Management Expertise: 5+ years of direct people management experience leading cross-functional teams, managing matrixed stakeholders, and developing organizational capability.
  • Technical & Regulatory Mastery: Deep expertise in regulatory analysis, Management of Change (MOC), hazard identification, property loss control, and building code/safety standards.
  • Emergency Response Readiness: Demonstrated capability to command critical incidents (chemical spills, major power outages) with the flexibility for executive escalation and after‑hours response.
  • Strategic Business Acumen: Proven ability to translate complex technical risks into clear executive insights, balance regulatory requirements with business velocity, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
