Job summary

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (AJG) seeks a Director, Risk Advisory to lead client relationships, optimize total cost of risk, and manage a team delivering strategic services. You will negotiate with brokers, underwriters, and partners to define service standards and expand coverage for clients.

The role requires 10–15 years in insurance/risk management, strong leadership, and a proven ability to drive client satisfaction, retention, and business growth across multiple accounts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required or higher in risk management or related field
  • 10–15 years' experience in insurance/risk management
  • 3–5 years leading account/relationship management in a team setting
  • Experience managing relationships with partners in the insurance industry
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and support sales activities
  • Aptitude for marketing calls and sales
  • Proven ability to analyze exposures and review sales/market analytics
  • Advanced computer literacy: Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Act as account executive and relationship manager for assigned clients, ensuring long-term satisfaction
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships to tailor service delivery
  • Coordinate with brokers, underwriters, vendors to deliver/monitor risk management services
  • Manage client engagements and projects
  • Support development of new clients via proposals and negotiations
  • Collaborate with client leadership to optimize total cost of risk and program outcomes
  • Lead strategy sessions and present coverage options to leadership and boards
  • Assemble and manage risk management teams across functions like claims, loss control, placement, M&A due diligence, ERM
  • Cultivate new client relationships from leads and onboarding activities
  • Collaborate with Risk International teams to expand service offerings
  • Lead Managers/Associates, set goals and provide coaching and performance feedback
  • Define team goals aligned with company objectives and monitor progress
  • Develop skills of Directors/Managers/Associates through training on account management and risk leadership
  • Provide leadership to ensure teams have capabilities to serve clients
  • Set expectations and conduct regular performance reviews

How you'll make an impact

The Director, Risk Advisory, develops and maintains client relationships and ensures client satisfaction and retention. The Director, Risk Advisory, will identify strategies to optimize their clients' total cost of risk and lead a team of risk management professionals to implement and manage the strategies. The Director, Risk Advisory, will negotiate and strategize with brokers, underwriters, and other partners to define, implement, and manage on-going service delivery standards for their clients. A result of successfully managing client relationships is that the Director, Risk Advisory, will expand service delivery to more fully provide risk management support for clients. As a thought-leader, Director, Risk Advisory will continue to enhance their expertise in strategic areas and use that knowledge to develop others and grow company capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the account executive and relationship manager with assigned clients by ensuring long-term satisfaction, communicating with them on a regular basis, continually assessing their risk management needs, and identifying ways to deliver services to meet those needs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders within client organizations to determine how to best deliver services in that organization.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, underwriters, vendors, and other partners who provide client services, assist in negotiating, strategizing, planning, implementing, and managing risk management processes with them on behalf of the clients, and ensure quality delivery of services provided by them over time.
  • Manage client engagements.
  • Support development of new clients through written proposals, presentations and client engagement negotiations.
  • Work with client leadership to define strategies and program parameters to ensure total cost of risk is optimized and program outcomes are achieved and communicated.
  • Lead strategy sessions and present coverage options to client leadership and boards for approval and updates.
  • Assemble and manage teams of professionals who will run various risk management functions including claims, loss control, insurance placement, mergers and acquisitions due diligence, enterprise risk management, etc.
  • Based on leads generated by the sales team, develop relationships with prospective clients and lead efforts to onboard new client accounts and provide ongoing client services.
  • Maintain an awareness of clients' risk management needs and collaborate with Risk International team members to identify opportunities to expand service delivery and Risk International service offerings.
  • Lead and manage Managers and/or Associates to ensure quality control throughout their base of assigned clients.
  • Define risk management team goals in alignment with company goals, track progress, and manage activities to achieve the goals.
  • Develop the skills and knowledge of Directors, Managers and Associates by educating and training them on account management, client relationship management, client strategy, risk management, and leadership.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to risk management teams to ensure they have the necessary skills and capabilities to serve clients.
  • Set performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct employee performance reviews.
About You

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a preference for a degree in risk management or related field.
  • 10 - 15 years' experience working in the insurance / risk management field.
  • 3-5 years of experience being responsible for account and/or relationship management, leading and managing in a team-based environment
  • Experience managing relationships with various partners in the insurance industry.
  • Ability and experience to negotiate contracts and support sales activities.
  • Aptitude for marketing calls and sales
  • Proven ability to successfully negotiate, analyse exposures and review sales/market analytics
  • Advanced computer literacy skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrable ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
  • Motivated individual who is deadline driven and committed to delivering an excellent level of client service
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
