Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 10+ years in a regulated utility environment with state regulator interaction preferred.
• Leadership, communication, critical thinking and strong written skills required.
• Travel ability and strategic business insight are important.

• Monitor regulatory developments and advise on compliance, tariffs, cost recovery, and infrastructure investment.

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from:$156,000 - $195,000

Job Summary:

The Director - Regulatory Affairs serves as the primary regulatory contact for the operating company and state jurisdiction. This role develops and executes regulatory strategies that support sound public policy, protect customer and company interests, and enables safe, reliable, and affordable service. The position partners across regulatory, government affairs, customer service, operations, and energy strategy functions to align approaches and advance regulatory objectives. The role also advises leadership on regulatory risks, opportunities, and stakeholder priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute regulatory strategies that support sound public policy and customer-focused outcomes.
• Shape company positions in regulatory proceedings through cross-functional coordination and strategic advocacy.
• Build alignment among business, legal, financial, operational, and policy teams to support regulatory objectives.
• Design stakeholder engagement approaches that foster understanding, build consensus, and support constructive outcomes.
• Cultivate relationships with regulators, policymakers, consumer advocates, industry organizations, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare and support regulatory filings, testimony, comments, and related communications.
• Represent the company before regulatory agencies, policymakers, industry groups, and external stakeholders.
• Monitor regulatory and policy developments, assess business impacts, and provide guidance on compliance, tariffs, cost recovery, infrastructure investment, and customer considerations.
• Engages with industry associations and forums to track trends and help shape regulatory policy.
• Advise senior leadership, support negotiations and settlements, participate in industry forums, monitor commission activities, and attend regional regulatory meetings as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in a regulated utility environment, as well as interacting with state regulators is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of the regulatory landscape and regulatory processes.
• Experience in leadership, communication, critical thinking, and technical writing.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to assess risks, opportunities, and business impacts.
• Ability to travel regularly (10% to 25%).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Postgraduate MBA or JD preferred.
