Job summary

AutoZone's Director of Legal Real Estate leads the Real Estate Legal Department and directs legal matters for existing assets and new store development across the United States and Puerto Rico. The role includes supervision of attorneys, escrow specialists, and property management staff to support store openings and ongoing property operations.

The candidate must hold a Juris Doctor and be actively licensed in Tennessee, with 12+ years in real estate development or related law, plus strong

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree in Law required and active Tennessee bar or ability to register for in-house counsel designation.
• 12+ years of experience in real estate development, contract or corporate law.

Responsibilities

• Lead Real Estate Legal Department, overseeing attorneys and professionals on contracts, property management, and escrow teams.
• Support Store Development in opening new retail locations across the US and Puerto Rico.
• Advise on purchase/sale agreements, leases, construction, zoning, environmental, and title issues.
• Coordinate with Store Development, Property Management, and Construction to meet store openings KPIs.
• Supervise outside counsel and manage workflow within Real Estate and Property Management Legal teams.
• Maintain reporting procedures and improve processes in Property Management and Store Development.
• Provide training and development for real estate attorneys and support staff.
• Ensure compliance with current Commercial Real Estate Law and revise department policies.
