Job summary

Target's Law Department seeks a Director – Real Estate Counsel to lead transactional real estate work, including leasing, purchases, and development agreements. You will partner with developers, landlords, and government authorities while guiding internal teams and outside counsel.

The role requires a J.D. and 5+ years in commercial real estate, with strong negotiation and analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• 5+ years of experience as a commercial real estate attorney with transactional focus.
• Excellent analysis and negotiation skills balancing legal risk and business needs.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and learning new business priorities.
• Highly organized with ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders.
• Strong writing and presentation skills for leadership levels.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate and draft a wide range of real estate transactions, including leases and purchase agreements.
• Represent Target with developers, landlords, and governmental authorities.
• Collaborate with paralegal team on title reviews and closings.
• Provide legal advice and training on transaction structuring and disputes.
• Manage outside counsel and build relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
