Position Overview

The Senior Director of Radiation Oncology and the Proton Center provides overall technical leadership and operational direction for Radiation Oncology across all technological modalities and network sites. Responsibilities include operational management of the technical, fiscal, human, and information resources of the department, ensuring compliance with standards and laws of external regulatory organizations. Develops and manages budgets, and collaborates with senior leadership on new technologies and innovations. Supervises technical staff and works closely with faculty, nursing, and administrative teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the Department Chair and Vice-Chair to plan, develop, and implement departmental goals.
  • Analyze and develop profitability of new treatment programs, define resource requirements.
  • Supervise technical Radiation Oncology leadership team, coaching for performance and leadership development.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and standards, including The Joint Commission, ACR, ASTRO, and health system policies.
  • Oversee implementation of new technologies, e.g., hadron treatment center in collaboration with SLAC, VA, SHC, and LPCH.
  • Manage departmental budgets, strategies for cost control and revenue enhancement.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance and safety programs, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies.
  • Set performance objectives, assess staff competence, and drive performance improvements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
  • Master’s degree in radiation sciences, medical physics, or related field
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in managing similar programs
  • Experience with business planning and strategy in a regulated environment
  • PhD or certification by ABR, ABMP, or equivalent recognized by ACR
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of radiation oncology principles and equipment
  • Strong strategic planning and management skills
  • Ability to establish effective relationships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Leadership ability and conflict resolution skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiation oncology and technical disciplines
