A global biopharmaceutical company is looking for a Director, R&D IT Project Management – Cell Therapy to lead a portfolio of strategic IT programs supporting cell and gene therapy research. This is a senior-level role with ownership of a $10M program scope, offering the opportunity to shape how technology enables scientific innovation in one of the most transformative areas of drug development.

You’ll join a high-performing R&D IT function where collaboration, strategic planning, and stakeholder alignment are key. The ideal candidate brings experience managing large, complex, global projects in the life sciences sector-especially those intersecting with R&D, data, and regulated environments.

Your role as Director, R&D IT Project Management – Cell Therapy

  • Lead a portfolio of global IT projects aligned to cell and gene therapy R&D priorities
  • Drive full project lifecycle delivery-from scoping and planning through execution and transition to operations
  • Build and manage cross-functional delivery teams, project timelines, resources, and interdependencies
  • Oversee budgets, forecasts, risks, and change management, ensuring accountability and timely decision-making
  • Collaborate with scientific, technical, and operational stakeholders across multiple time zones
  • Apply portfolio and program management best practices to improve delivery standards, reporting, and governance
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality, data, and regulatory standards (e.g., GxP, SaMD)
  • Support development of project management capabilities and mentor team members across the function

Experience and qualifications for the Director, R&D IT Project Management – Cell Therapy role

  • 8 years of experience managing complex, multi-million-dollar IT programs in biopharma or consulting
  • Direct experience supporting R&D functions, ideally within cell or gene therapy
  • Background in leading global teams and working across distributed environments
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Waterfall delivery methods
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and guide cross-functional collaboration
  • Familiarity with SNOW PPM and JIRA for portfolio, budget, and resource management
  • Project/program management certifications (PMI, APM) required; portfolio management certification preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, business, or technical field (PhD or MBA a plus)
  • Solid grasp of biopharmaceutical R&D processes, risk management, and benefits delivery
