Scorpion Therapeutics seeks a Principal EH&S leader to drive industrial hygiene strategy across GWE R&D, directing exposure assessment, hazard control, and containment programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial/occupational hygiene, environmental/occupational health, chemistry, engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years industrial hygiene and EH&S experience in regulated life sciences/high-hazard environments.
  • Deep industrial-hygiene expertise (exposure assessment/monitoring/sampling, OELs/OEBs, hazard/control banding, engineering control evaluation) in lab/R&D.
  • Demonstrated Director-level EH&S leadership across multiple sites.
  • Ability to lead/influence in a matrix environment without solid-line authority.
  • Knowledge of applicable EH&S regulations/standards (OSHA, EPA, ACGIH, biosafety/containment, process safety) US and international.
  • Technical breadth across EH&S disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills across locations/functions/cultures.
  • Experience leading/supporting EH&S investigations and technical program development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hazard/control banding for potent compounds, high-hazard biologics/ADCs, and novel molecules; define containment strategies, engineering controls, and PPE.
  • Provide oversight of ventilation, fume hoods, isolators, and containment systems; performance verification and industrial-hygiene sign-off for labs/pilots.
  • Implement consistent industrial-hygiene risk-assessment methodologies and documentation standards across R&D sites.

  • Serve on GWE R&D Leadership Team and Safety & Environmental Operations Leadership Team to reduce EH&S risk and improve performance.
  • Design and govern exposure-assessment programs (air, surface, personal monitoring, sampling strategies) and interpret results against OELs/OEBs.
  • Lead hazard/control banding for potent compounds, high-hazard biologics/ADCs, and novel molecules; define containment strategies, engineering controls, and PPE.
  • Provide oversight of ventilation, fume hoods, isolators, and containment systems; performance verification and industrial-hygiene sign-off for labs/pilots.
  • Implement consistent industrial-hygiene risk-assessment methodologies and documentation standards across R&D sites.
  • Ensure consistent lab safety programs across different lab types (analytical, chemistry, biological, etc.).
  • Lead and manage a global EH&S Community of Practice (10–12 experts); set priorities, deliverables, and best practices.
  • Serve as enterprise EH&S liaison; shape industrial-hygiene standards and governance for R&D.
  • Lead EH&S governance and risk registers; maintain forward-looking risk views and action plans.
  • Partner with science leaders to enable risk-informed decisions.
  • Establish and deliver portfolio EH&S/industrial-hygiene performance metrics.
  • Explore and implement AI solutions for EHS processes, risk assessments, change control, and metrics.
  • Lead escalation, root-cause investigations, and lessons learned for significant EH&S events.
  • Support vendor programs and BD/M&A EH&S/IH due diligence; anticipate exposure gaps.
  • Develop talent and strengthen industrial-hygiene/EH&S bench strength.
Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years industrial hygiene and EH&S experience in regulated life sciences/high-hazard environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CIH (strongly preferred); CSP, CBSP/RBP or equivalent a plus.
  • MS/MPH/PhD in relevant area.
  • R&D/lab IH experience with high-potency compounds/ADCs, novel chemistries; BSL-3 and/or Select Agent programs.
  • EH&S management systems/digital platforms; exposure/EH&S metrics reporting.
  • BD/M&A EH&S due diligence and enterprise vendor/service program experience.
  • Active CPD in a relevant professional body.
Work Location & Schedule:
  • Hybrid. Travel up to ~30% domestically/internationally.
