You will shape exposure programs, oversee containment systems, and drive consistency across sites while coordinating with Safety & Environmental Operations.

This role demands leadership across multiple sites and senior collaboration with business leaders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial/occupational hygiene, environmental/occupational health, chemistry, engineering, or closely related field.
  • 10+ years progressive industrial-hygiene and EH&S experience in life sciences/high-hazard regulated environments.
  • Deep expertise in industrial hygiene (exposure assessment/monitoring/sampling, OELs/OEBs, hazard/control banding, engineering control evaluation) in labs/R&D.
  • Director-level EH&S leadership across multiple sites/enterprise.
  • Ability to lead/influence in matrixed environments without solid-line authority.
  • Working knowledge of EH&S regulations/standards (OSHA, EPA, ACGIH; biosafety/containment; process safety) U.S. and internationally.
  • Technical breadth across core EH&S disciplines beyond industrial hygiene.
  • Excellent communication skills across locations/functions/cultures.
  • Experience leading/supporting EH&S investigations and technical program development.

Responsibilities

  • Principal industrial-hygiene authority for GWE R&D: lead anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of chemical, physical, and biological exposure hazards across all sites.
  • Serve on the GWE R&D Leadership Team; partner with Safety & Environmental Operations leadership to reduce EH&S risk and improve performance.
  • Design and govern qualitative/quantitative exposure-assessment programs (air, surface, personal monitoring; sampling strategies; interpretation vs. OELs/OEBs).
  • Lead hazard/control banding for potent compounds, high-hazard biologics/ADCs, and novel molecules; define containment strategies, engineering controls, and PPE.
  • Provide technical oversight and industrial-hygiene sign-off for ventilation, fume hoods, isolators, and containment systems.
  • Support and implement consistent industrial-hygiene risk-assessment methodologies with SEO policies and procedures.
  • Ensure consistent lab safety program application across laboratory types (analytical, chemistry, biological, etc.).
  • Lead/manage a global EH&S Community of Practice (10-12 experts); set priorities, deliverables, standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Act as enterprise EH&S liaison to shape R&D-fit industrial-hygiene policies/standards and governance.
  • Lead site-level EH&S risk registers and action plans; escalation as needed.
  • Advise senior scientific/operational leaders with IH-based solutions; balance exposure risk with business needs.
  • Establish portfolio-level EH&S and industrial-hygiene performance reporting and metrics.
  • Explore and implement AI solutions for EHS processes, risk assessments, change control, and metrics.
  • Lead escalation/root-cause investigations for significant EH&S events; communicate lessons learned.
  • Represent R&D for EH&S vendor/service programs and lead EH&S/IH due diligence for BD&A.
