The Surface Optics Corporation in San Diego, CA is seeking a Director of Product Development and R&D to lead the New Product Introduction efforts and shape the company's technical and commercial roadmap.

You will manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists, translate research into market-ready products for defense, aerospace, space, and industrial clients, and collaborate across Marketing, Sales, and Program Management to position innovative solutions.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or M.S. in Physics, Optical Engineering, Materials Science or related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of R&D, new product introduction, and technical leadership in advanced tech.
• Demonstrated expertise in optical materials, coatings, and imaging systems.

Responsabilités

• Lead and manage the product development and R&D team across coatings, optical materials, sensors, and instrumentation.
• Oversee all phases of new product introduction from concept through development and commercialization.
• Direct internal and external research programs in optical coatings, thermal management materials, multispectral imaging, and other advanced technologies.
• Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Program Management to support proposals and customer engagement.
• Build and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, scientists, and technicians.
