Who will you be working with?

Director, Quality is responsible for the overall quality performance of WRE which promotes customer satisfaction and positively impacts the financial performance of WRE. The focus will be on products and service offered by the Germantown, MD organization.

How will you make a difference?

This position will monitor, assess, initiate and implement quality improvement activities as appropriate to measure and raise the company's performance in providing quality products and services to our customers. Scope of responsibility to include all Germantown engineering and manufacturing processes and products.

What do we want to know about you?

  • MS/BS preferably in an engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an Engineering, Operations or Quality leadership role, preferably in the rail industry.
  • Prior experience building a Quality organization within a company.
  • Experience with Repair and Field Service organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve continuous, process-driven improvement
  • Desired: Knowledge of Quality Systems ISO standards, EN Standards, IEC standards, IRIS, REACH, RoHS, CMMI, CENELEC.
  • Desired: Experience with International Locomotive OEMs/NAFTA Transit customers and related Quality requirements.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, including ability to develop "bench strength".
  • Ability to develop high level of credibility and strong positive relationships with subordinates, peers, and customers.
  • Self motivated; bias for action; willing to "rollup sleeves", as required.


What will your typical day look like?

  • Effective oral and written communication skill; ability to articulate clearly and concisely with message tailored to audience.
  • Monitor product quality and reliability. Provide quantitative reports and information, especially related to warranty return rates and costs. Provide assessment of process problems. Work with peers in Engineering, Operations, Product Line Management, Repair and Field Service to implement corrective actions as required,
  • Develop and implement Supplier Quality Program which improves overall supplier productivity, quality, and delivery performance.
  • Provide reliability engineering support to new development activities to ensure that the product is designed and developed in accordance with customer requirements. Contribute to and approve product design verification and validation protocols and reports.
  • Manage all audit requirements; ISO, customer audits, First Article Inspections, etc. Lead efforts to obtain new certifications (IRIS).
  • Mentor and/or train employees in general quality concepts. Provide advice to management related to organizational and product improvements.
  • Serve as the WRE Quality Advocate to major customers. Monitor customer opinion and any customer provided quality ratings data.
  • Review new contract Quality requirements to Ensure compliance. Provide input on new proposal efforts. Provide RAMS/LCC/MTBF analysis and reporting
  • Lead internal quality meetings. Monitor field Mod programs for completion. Run internal audit program. Serve as liaison on Corporate Quality Council.
  • Provide signatory approval on all EWOs to ensure compliance with the EWO process while assessing the product quality implication of the EWO
  • Measure and drive process improvements to reduce the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), improve First Pass Yield and deliver enhanced field performance.


You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary. This role is based in Germantown.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$117,900.00-$168,000.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
