Director, Publications and Scientific Communications

Overview

This position will develop scientific publications and presentations and lead publication strategy. The Director, Publications and Scientific Communications works closely with various functional areas within the organization to communicate accurate, consistent, and timely information regarding products and therapeutic areas. Additionally, the candidate is accountable for researching, evaluating, and interpreting medical literature in conjunction with creating and updating standard scientific response documents and for receiving, documenting, evaluating, classifying, and responding to unsolicited requests for information inquiries on products from consumers and health care professionals.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Lead development of publications (congress abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts
  • Lead execution of publication-focused gap analysis and strategic publication planning
  • Lead development and maintenance of publications lexicons
  • Proactively review pertinent and emerging scientific literature to keep abreast of the therapeutic landscape relevant to Iovance.
  • Ensure publications convey accurate and non-misleading communications of the product and data.
  • Ensure publication pieces are developed, reviewed, and approved according to company SOPs.
  • Facilitate communications with cross-functional leaders with the goals of transparency and consistency and gaining alignment on core scientific statements comprising scientific communications.
  • Oversee core activities about internal education & training, including but not limited to launch and launch-related training, high-impact data and competitor data education, training in support of medical initiatives and field initiatives, and knowledge enhancements on hot topics and critical topics of interest.
  • Oversee core activities related to congress data coverage, including but not limited to congress preparation (e.g., pre-conference data searches, data review), onsite coverage and debriefing, and post-congress congress activities (such as debriefs and pan congress insight trending and analysis).
  • Maintain an expert understanding of product knowledge and labeling, associated disease states, relevant literature, treatment guidelines, competitor information, and marketing strategies and tactics for assigned therapeutic area(s). Assumes responsibility (up to 20% of the time) for diverse and complex projects regardless of disease histology when needed.
  • Developing internal communication plans to engage key stakeholders and increase information sharing and transparency across the organization. Lead and manage ongoing and evolving workstreams for input on critical topics to proactively address gaps in communications and alignment. Develop and maintain effective means of ensuring transparency and feedback.
  • Conduct a medical review of assigned promotional materials in preparation for promotional review committee meetings
  • Must adhere to Iovance Biotherapeutics’ core values, policies, procedures, and business ethics.

Travel - <20%

Required Education, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Advanced scientific/clinical degree required (e.g., PharmD, Ph.D., MD) in a science-related field with 7+ years relevant industry experience in medical/scientific publications either in the pharmaceutical industry or related (e.g., medical communication agency) industry required or
  • Master’s degree in a science-related field with 10+ years relevant industry experience
  • Must be proficient in creating high-end visuals in communicating scientific concepts
  • Experience in Cell Therapy or IO space required.
  • Experience in the development and medical writing of peer-reviewed publications and congress materials (abstracts, posters, presentations)
  • Strong HEOR experience required
  • Experience with publications planning and execution, including literature gap analysis
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Experience with the development of scientific communication platforms or scientific statements
  • Experience in literature searches, literature evaluation, and drug information and educational concepts
