Job summary

City of Fort Wayne is seeking a Technical Director for the Radio Shop to lead the public safety radio infrastructure across Fort Wayne and Allen County. You will ensure reliability, compliance, and strategic direction for P25 and trunked systems, with on-call duties for emergencies.

You will supervise Radio Shop staff, manage licenses and vendor contracts, coordinate with city and state partners, and drive system upgrades to support first responders.

Qualifications

• Experience with public safety radio systems (Police, Fire, 911 environments).
• Strong working knowledge of P25, trunked radio systems, RF principles, and FCC regulations.
• Leadership experience overseeing technical teams or system operations.
• Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the City's public safety radio infrastructure, ensuring systems are stable, compliant, and prepared for future growth.
• Lead and supervise Radio Shop staff, including hiring, training, and performance management
• Direct operation, maintenance, and expansion of P25 and trunked radio systems
• Serve as system manager for the Consolidated Communications Partnership (CCP)
• Manage FCC licensing and coordinate with City, County, State, and mutual aid partners
• Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, and system upgrades
