Job summary

Investment Company Institute in Washington, DC seeks a policy analyst to identify APAC regulatory developments impacting the global fund industry and to develop positions and briefing materials. You will lead engagement with regulators across Asia Pacific, produce position papers, brief senior leaders, and organize webinars and events, requiring fluency in English and Chinese and willingness to travel.

Partial remote work (3 days in office, 2 days WFH) and international travel are expected as

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • 96 months of experience in asset management or financial regulation space.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin).
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work outside US business hours.
  • Reference checks required.
  • Experience coordinating with regulators, policymakers, and consultants across regions.

Job description

Salary Range: $174,450.00 To $189,300.00 Annually

Job Duties: Identifies and analyzes key regulatory and policy initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region affecting the global fund industry and the impacts of such developments on ICI member firms in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) and English. Develops recommendations and policy positions on key proposals and initiatives in the Asia Pacific region and leads the drafting of relevant position papers and other materials, working in collaboration with ICI members and other ICI departments as appropriate. Designs and implements engagement and advocacy strategies with regulators and policymakers in support of ICI advocacy activities in the Asia Pacific region. Briefs ICI staff and ICI members on regulatory and policy developments through written and oral communications, including member memos, webinars, and other products. Prepares briefings for the CEO, Chief Global Affairs Officer, and the MD for Asia and Global Analytics on key topics and in support of meetings with senior officials and other key stakeholders in Asia Pacific. Designs and executes webinars, roundtables, and other member events in Asia Pacific, including identifying relevant discussion topics, securing public official and expert speakers, managing logistics, and ensuring seamless execution. Develops content and talking points on APAC and EMEA issues for ICI senior leaders' participation in external seminars, luncheons, and other public speaking engagements. Builds relationships with regulators, policymakers, and key stakeholders (e.g., local industry associations) in the Asia Pacific region in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) and English. Supports structuring of effective and efficient meetings of ICI steering and policy committees for Asia-based members, and topic-specific working groups, including developing agendas and leading relevant discussion items. Helps to ensure the accuracy and reliability of information and analysis collected and used in ICI materials. Drafts final reports of research results for internal use and use in ICI publications. Works effectively with external consultants and vendors to support ICI projects and ICI goals. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements: Bachelor’s in Business, Finance, Economics, or related and 96 months of experience in the job offered or as an analyst or researcher in the asset management, or financial regulatory space. Alternatively, will accept a Master’s degree and 60 months of experience in the positions listed above. Additionally, all candidates must possess written and spoken fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin). Reference check. Must have 5 years of: 1) knowledge of APAC financial institutions and financial markets; 2) experience independently managing multiple workflows against tight deadlines; and 3) experience collaborating with and presenting to colleagues and consultants, across regions, jurisdictions, and time zones. Also, must have 3 years of: 1) experience synthesizing information, analysis, and data to respond to queries from members and from policymakers; and 2) analyzing the impacts of regulatory initiatives and policy issues on the asset management industry in Asia, and translating industry concerns into policy positions and advocacy strategy, and then executing the strategy. Position is based out of 1401 H St. NW, Suite 1200, Washington, DC 20005. Must travel to Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and domestically throughout the year. Typically travels to Asia a minimum of 6 times per year to meet with Asia members. Partial remote schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days WFH (work from home) with Tuesday and Wednesday core in-office days. Also, ability to work outside US business hours (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) as needed for meetings with Asia members. Rate of Pay: $174,450.00-$189,300.00/year.
