Job summary

The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a Director, Research & Prospect Management to lead research, prospect strategy, and portfolio management within the Advancement team. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement Operations and Strategy, you will manage two direct reports and partner with major gifts, planned giving, and other teams to ensure research informs fundraising strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10+ years of professional experience in prospect research and portfolio management in a complex nonprofit/institution.
• Minimum of 4 years of management experience leading a team.
• Experience using Raiser's Edge NXT and wealth screening tools (e.g., iWave, LexisNexis, RelSci).
• Comfort with analytics, Excel, and modeling outputs; translate data into strategy.
• Affinity for the natural world and engagement with the museum's research and exhibitions.

Responsibilities

• Lead prospect research methodologies and portfolio management aligned with fundraising priorities.
• Produce donor profiles using financial databases, 990 filings, and related sources.
• Provide analysis to inform leadership decisions and next steps.
• Develop and refine moves management, portfolio review practices, and data-driven processes.
• Manage two direct reports and collaborate with cross-functional fundraising teams.
