Job summary

The Metropolitan Opera’s Production Department is seeking a Director of Production Infrastructure and Planning to lead long-term capital improvement planning for stage facilities and production systems. This role will manage capital projects, budgets, RFPs, and vendor relationships to support the Met’s performance schedule.

Qualifications

• A terminal degree in Theater, Production, Management, or equivalent professional experience is required.
• 5 years of experience in a similar position at a major theatrical venue is required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of standard project management practices.
• Knowledge and experience with all aspects of technical backstage operation is required.
• An ability to clearly communicate technical and artistic concepts in writing is essential.

Responsibilities

• Develop a long-term capital master plan and the execution of production capital projects.
• Plan individual capital projects including budget, RFPs, and resources.
• Negotiate and contract third-party project management firms, consultants, and equipment vendors.
• Oversee the production systems including safety, permits and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate external workshops, storage spaces, and production facilities management.
• Develop annual budgets and expense tracking for production systems.
