Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior product leader to drive the optical networking portfolio in California. Define the long-term vision, translate customer needs into requirements, and push revenue and margin growth across the product lifecycle.

You will lead cross-functional teams, steer roadmaps, manage RFP/RFQ activities, and coordinate lab certifications while shaping go-to-market strategies with Marketing and Sales. Travel up to 20% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering; 10–15 years in optical networking.
• Proven track record developing successful products in optical networking.
• Strong understanding of disaggregated optical line systems and coherent modem/pluggable technologies.
• Seasoned business judgment and strong analytical abilities in strategic business/financial analysis.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and business acumen.

Responsibilities

• Define and communicate long-term product vision and value proposition for the product portfolio.
• Drive roadmap discussions, RFP/RFQ activities, and lab certification engagements.
• Translate customer needs and pain points into product requirements and release priorities.
• Lead cross-functional teams across Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, Partners, Sales, R&D, System Architecture, Marketing, and customers.
• Develop go-to-market strategies and enablement materials with Marketing and Sales.
• Manage the product lifecycle from ideation through delivery and sunset.
• Support forecasting, pricing, and profitability activities.
• Monitor and coordinate order fulfillment to meet cost, lead-time, delivery, volume, quality, and margin objectives.

Job description

• Report to the VP & GM
• Define and communicate long-term product vision and value proposition for the product portfolio
• Drive business revenue and gross margin
• Develop business and technical customer relationships
• Drive roadmap discussions, RFP/RFQ activities, and lab certification engagements
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis
• Translate customer needs and pain points into product requirements and release priorities
• Lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, Partners, Sales, R&D, System Architecture, Marketing, and customers
• Prioritize product features and initiatives using data, customer insights, and business impact
• Develop go-to-market strategies and enablement materials with Marketing and Sales
• Manage the product lifecycle from ideation through delivery and sunset
• Support forecasting, pricing, and profitability activities
• Monitor and coordinate order fulfillment to meet cost, lead-time, delivery, volume, quality, and margin objectives
• Influence organizational priorities through storytelling and strategic rationale
• Travel up to 20%; accommodate occasional overtime and flexible hours for customer needs

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in related engineering field
• 10 to 15 years of optical networking industry experience
• Proven track record of developing successful products
• Strong understanding of disaggregated optical line systems and coherent modem/pluggable technologies is preferred
• Seasoned business judgment and superior analytical abilities, particularly in strategic business and financial analysis
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and business acumen
• Strong planning, leadership, negotiation, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Ability to work through non-direct reports and influence others
• Ability to manage multiple projects and follow through
• Understanding of business strategies and ability to formulate and execute supporting plans
• Ability to train, coach, and mentor others
• Must follow site EHS procedures and Coherent Corporate EHS standards
• May be responsible for ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable quality and environmental standards depending on location
