Job description

Requisition ID528225-Posted08/26/2026-AMAT-Central Division Corporate-Full Time-Purchasing/Supply Chain

CRH's Americas Materials business is the leading provider of building materials in North America. The aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete, paving and construction services we deliver are critical to building our world. Our operations span 45 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces with over 30,000 employees across 1,700 operating locations.

Position Overview

The Director of Procurement for the South Central Division serves as a strategic business partner to leadership across the Division's operating companies. This role leads the end-to-end Division procurement organization — strategic sourcing, category management, supplier management, and procurement analytics — overseeing more than $1 billion in annual addressable spend across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and West Tennessee, in close alignment with Division leadership, Americas Materials Procurement, Procurement Centers of Excellence, and Shared Services. The Director leads a team of procurement managers, category leaders, and analysts supporting operations across the Division.

The successful candidate is an operationally minded procurement leader who converts market, supplier, and spend insight into business action: influencing cost, margin, capital, and supply‑continuity decisions; driving disciplined, consistent procurement process execution; and building a high-performing team. This position is a key member of the Division leadership team and a critical partner in enabling transformation, growth, and long‑term profitability for the Division.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Performance Management
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to Division and operating company leadership on cost management, supplier strategy, market risk, and procurement opportunities, providing independent perspectives and insights that inform and influence business direction at the Division level.
  • Develop and execute the South Central Division procurement strategy aligned with CRH objectives and procurement standards, leading all addressable external spend across the Division to deliver sustainable cost savings, value creation, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead supplier selection, negotiations, contracting, and performance management, developing and maintaining strategic supplier relationships that enhance service, quality, innovation, and value across the Division.
  • Strengthen supply continuity and business resilience through proactive supplier risk assessment, capacity planning, financial health monitoring, and mitigation of macroeconomic risks, including tariffs.
  • Partner with Finance to forecast, track, validate, and realize procurement savings, ensuring value capture is accurately reflected in budgets, forecasts, and business results.
  • Develop procurement reporting, analytics, and related presentations for the Division and Americas Materials leadership teams, ensuring accurate, timely, and decision‑ready information on spend, savings realization, and supplier performance.
  • Advance procurement transformation by leading Division procurement workstreams supporting SAP deployment, standardizing Procure-to-Pay processes, and increasing adoption of consistent processes, tools, and standard operating procedures.
  • Champion technology‑enabled procurement capabilities — including e‑sourcing, contract management, and spend analytics tools — leveraging emerging technologies to improve efficiency of sourcing and reporting processes and enhance the quality of insight delivered to the business.
  • Support strategic capital investment projects through procurement planning, supplier engagement, and market intelligence, providing strategic input on sourcing and investment decisions aligned to growth priorities.
  • Support the Division leadership on strategic initiatives and organizational change within the Division, ensuring procurement plays a proactive role in enabling transformation and business evolution.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, CRH policies and procedures, and good governance practices across all sourcing, contracting, and Procure-to-Pay activities.
Team Management
  • Lead and manage the Division procurement organization to ensure end-to-end procurement performance, driving aligned, efficient, and effective operations across all core sourcing and category management processes.
  • Contribute to talent management strategy and workforce planning while building and maintaining a strong, collaborative team that delivers results; develop and mentor procurement professionals through coaching and Individual Development Plans, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and promoting CRH-wide career opportunities.
  • Oversee the procurement service delivery model, fostering continuous improvement and staying informed on best practices and emerging technologies to ensure alignment with Americas Materials Procurement, Centers of Excellence, and Shared Services.
Qualifications
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or Finance concentration preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive procurement, strategic sourcing, or category management experience, including 5+ years leading procurement teams across multiple locations or business units.
  • Experience in a public company and/or large, matrixed multinational organization strongly preferred.
  • Experience in building materials, aggregates, asphalt, ready‑mix concrete, construction, mining, or similar asset‑intensive operational environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience with procurement shared services or center‑of‑excellence environments preferred.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements
  • A business partner who can support strategy, drive the performance of the business, and bring a strong mindset around performance, cash, and cost.
  • Deep expertise in strategic sourcing, category management, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management.
  • Proven success developing and implementing sourcing strategies that deliver measurable, validated business outcomes.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including a clear understanding of cost drivers, savings methodologies, and the P&L and cash flow impact of procurement decisions.
  • Strong systems and analytics orientation: advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required; ERP implementation experience highly preferred, with SAP experience a strong plus; comfort adopting emerging technologies and automation.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence — able to synthesize complex market, supplier, and spend information and distill it into clear, concise, easy‑to‑follow narratives.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority across a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and motivate a team; prior people‑management experience required.
  • Thrives in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience supporting M&A activity (supplier due diligence, synergy capture, integration) preferred.
  • Strategic business acumen
  • Drive for results and accountability
  • Analytical rigor and decision quality
  • Negotiation and influencing without authority
  • Collaboration and stakeholder management across a matrixed organization
  • Change leadership and continuous improvement
  • Talent development and team leadership

  • Houston, TX is the preferred base location. Other locations within the South Central Division will be considered.
