Job summary

Current is seeking a Director of Portfolio Operations to lead turning around portfolio firms by diagnosing performance gaps and driving measurable improvements in EBITDA, margins, and cash flow. You will work closely with firm leadership to create and execute transformation plans, manage multi-workstream initiatives, and ensure sustainable operating practices across the portfolio.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in restructuring, performance improvement, or transformation leadership.
• Proven experience leading multi-workstream transformations with EBITDA/margin improvements.
• Fluency in P&L metrics and operational performance.
• Willingness to embed on-site with portfolio firms for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose root causes of financial and operational underperformance through P&L analysis and data.
• Develop actionable transformation plans with initiatives, owners, milestones, targets, and benefits.
• Drive implementation from diagnosis to execution and sustained adoption.
• Identify opportunities to improve EBITDA, margins, realization, utilization, and working capital.
• Build and manage integrated workplans, milestones, risks, and executive reporting.
• Partner with Managing Partners, COOs, Regional Leaders to align and hold accountability.
• Lead organizational design, process improvement, and technology implementations as needed.
• Track benefits against the business case and intervene if behind schedule.
• Establish operating routines and controls to sustain improvements.

About the Role

The Director, Portfolio Operations is responsible for improving the financial and operational performance of firms across our portfolio. This role is deployed into priority firms for defined transformation engagements, working directly with firm and regional leadership to diagnose performance issues, develop improvement plans, and drive execution through measurable results. The Director will focus on EBITDA expansion, margin improvement, cash flow, organizational effectiveness, and sustainable operating practices. This is a hands‑on transformation role requiring strong financial acumen, structured problem solving, program leadership, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Lead transformation, restructuring, and turnaround initiatives within portfolio firms.

• Diagnose root causes of financial and operational underperformance through P&L analysis, operational data, and leadership engagement.

• Develop actionable transformation plans with clear initiatives, owners, milestones, financial targets, and expected benefits.

• Drive implementation from initial diagnostic through execution, benefit realization, and sustained adoption.

• Identify opportunities to improve EBITDA, margins, realization, utilization, staffing leverage, working capital, and cost structure.

• Build and manage integrated workplans, workstreams, milestones, dependencies, risks, and executive reporting.

• Partner closely with Managing Partners, COOs, Regional Leadership, and functional leaders to build alignment and accountability.

• Lead organizational design, right‑sizing, process improvement, technology implementation, workforce planning, and operating model initiatives as needed.

• Track realized financial benefits against the transformation business case and intervene when initiatives fall behind.

• Establish operating routines, controls, and performance measures that sustain improvements after an engagement concludes.

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience spanning restructuring, performance improvement, transaction advisory, transformation, or operations leadership.

• Demonstrated experience leading business transformations or turnarounds that produced measurable EBITDA, margin, or working‑capital improvement.

• Strong financial acumen and fluency in P&L analysis and operational performance metrics.

• Experience personally leading complex, multi-workstream initiatives from diagnosis through implementation.

• Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.

• Willingness to travel and embed on-site with portfolio firms for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Alvarez & Marsal, AlixPartners, FTI Consulting, Big Four advisory, or a comparable performance‑improvement organization.

• Experience in professional services, private equity portfolio operations, or another people‑intensive services business.

• Fluency in realization, utilization, leverage, WIP, and working‑capital dynamics.

• MBA or other relevant advanced degree.

• Experience with M&A integrations, carve‑outs, enterprise technology implementations, or AI-enabled process improvement.
