Director, Planned Giving - St. Peter's Health Partners - Full-Time Days

Summary:

The Director of Planned Giving shall provide strategic, logistical and project management support for the Planned Giving efforts of each charitable foundation under St. Peter’s Health Partners Center for Philanthropy. This position is responsible for managing the internal operations of the office of Planned Giving, including, but not limited to, administration of bequest expectancies, the gift annuity program, the marketing program, as well as project management. This individual will participate in the planning and implementation of programs and practices which cultivate, solicit and steward prospective and existing donors with an emphasis on developing planned and outright major gifts that require financial and/or estate planning expertise. The position supports the work of each foundation Executive Director and all work being done with professional advisors. This individual is responsible for tracking and managing information and strategies pertaining to all aspects of planned giving, including timely and accurate documentation of conversations and contacts with donors, volunteers, board members, financial advisors, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

1. Administer matured estates until gifts are received and estates are closed. This involves working with attorneys and trustees, and tracking and managing information regarding potential and confirmed estate gifts.
2. Oversee gifts from various forms of trusts managed by outside trustees.
3. Track all gift annuity donors and annuitants and implement the required schedule of appropriate payments and timely reports with the CGA Administrator.
4. Execute gift annuity contracts and provide the necessary disclosure statements.
5. Participate in the planning and implementation of strategies and activities that promote the planned giving program, convey the tax advantages and describe how these gifts are beneficial components to financial and estate planning.
6. Coordinate the creation and distribution of planned giving publications.
7. Assist each foundation Executive Director with the management of membership of their respective “Legacy Society;” work with staff regarding all stewardship strategies for Planned Giving.
8. Develop effective working relationships with professional advisors in the legal, financial and banking communities.
9. Work with donors' professional advisors (attorneys, trust officers, financial planners, insurance professionals, CPAs, etc.) in developing charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trust, as well as other planned gift arrangements.
10. Manage and complete existing projects for the office of planned giving.
11. Design, manage and complete new projects that develop at any given time, including projects that relate to donors, financial advisors, board reports, or analysis of some specific area within the planned giving area.
12. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key volunteers, prospects, donors and financial advisors.
13. Collaborate with colleagues within SPHP to ensure the success of the planned giving effort.
14. Place a high priority on serving internal and external contacts in a timely, courteous manner, following up until needs are met.
15. Compose and prepare routine correspondence and presentations, including letters and various types of documents.
16. Attend select meetings with the Vice President, Philanthropy and foundation Executive Directors to conduct follow-up as appropriate and directed.

Minimum Education

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Masters Preferred) with 10 years of progressive fundraising experience

Minimum Job Experience

1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, human relations astuteness, and a strong donor relations orientation.
2. Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and use logic and have the ability to troubleshoot situations.
3. Ability to exercise decisiveness and good judgment in situations requiring the evaluation of information to reach creative solutions.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of nonprofit fundraising, charitable gifts and records administration, prospect development, donor stewardship, database administration, and IRS regulations regarding charitable giving.
5. Ability to use discretion, exercise good judgment, maintain ethical behavior, diplomacy and maintain strict confidentiality.

Pay range: $45.91-$73.46

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
