Job summary

New Jersey Institute of Technology is seeking a Director of Planned Giving to lead NJIT's comprehensive planned giving program. The role reports to the Associate Vice President for Major and Planned Giving and requires strategic thinking, marketing oversight, and portfolio management of planned gifts and major gift prospects.

You will develop proposals, educate donors on gift options, and coordinate with vendors while traveling as needed and supporting evenings/weekend events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; a law degree or other advanced degree preferred.
  • 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in the advancement field, preferably in higher education, with success in soliciting and closing major gifts and planned gifts.
  • Knowledge of fundraising for higher education, with expertise in planned giving.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive planned giving program.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Familiarity with charitable tax law, finance, and estate planning techniques.
  • Travel and ability to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, educate, solicit, and steward prospects for planned, estate, and outright gifts.
  • Develop, manage, and expand a portfolio of planned giving prospects and select major gift prospects.
  • Develop formal proposals for prospective donors, including illustrations of planned gifts, with documented execution.
  • Set annual goals for planned giving in collaboration with the AVP for Major and Planned Giving.
  • Coordinate marketing initiatives with the planned giving vendor and support seminars and events.
  • Maintain expertise in state and federal taxes, gift/estate methods, and legal aspects of planned giving.
  • Work with Prospect Research and Major Gifts to identify and educate new donors about planned giving opportunities.
