Occupational Summary

Provide leadership related to the strategic sourcing activities and initiatives across both the Duke University Health System, Inc. (DUHS), as well as Duke University (DU), developing and sustaining a best-in-class pharmacy and supply chain sourcing program within the United States. We welcome applications from individuals who may not be licensed pharmacists but possess the desired strategic supply chain, sourcing, and leadership experience required to excel in this role.

Work Performed:
  • Strategic Roadmaps: Develop and utilize a strategic sourcing roadmap that includes a twelve-month forward-looking expired contract roadmap specific to the needs of the role.
  • Methodology & Standards: Provide leadership for all assigned associates, utilizing standardized sourcing methodologies, contract templates, and benchmarking proformas. Lead associates in the deployment of standard work (contract repositories, project management platforms, and Supply Chain balanced scorecards).
  • Value & Margin Improvement: Develop comprehensive plans with Duke's group purchasing organization to maximize administrative fees. Establish specific economic valuation targets for each fiscal year to support overall Supply Chain expense reduction.
  • Negotiation & Contracting: Strategically source and negotiate service-related agreements. Negotiate best-in-class terms for attributes impacting operating expenses (warranty, service, parts replacement, etc.).
  • Standardization & Inventory: Identify and cultivate standardized supply inventory room proformas (size, configuration, proximity to point-of-care) including inventory management methodologies. Advance the DUHS and DU supplier consolidation and product standardization roadmap to reduce clinical variation.
  • Compliance: Develop and implement post-sourcing compliance management standards to ensure agreement-based compliance and a reduction in clinical variation in use.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrate successful leadership collaboration with Supply Chain operations and value analysis teams to foster positive change, mitigate risk, and advance economic value.
  • Supplier Diversity: Develop strategic sourcing plans that achieve the Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier diversity goal objectives for Supply Chain.
  • Performance Tracking: Measure, monitor, and continuously improve the overall time to execution as targeted within the Supply Chain Balanced Scorecard.

  • Lead enterprise sourcing strategy and execution for an assigned portfolio across Duke University and DUHS.
  • Bring together stakeholder demand, supplier strategy, market intelligence, competitive sourcing, and contract readiness to create measurable "One Duke" value.
  • Drive cross-institution integration of sourcing demand, aligning stakeholders to maximize leverage and commercial discipline.
  • Oversee complex negotiations and contract lifecycle governance to strengthen pricing, risk allocation, and implementation outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education

Requires a bachelor's degree. Master's Degree strongly preferred. A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) is highly preferred. This role is designed to leverage pharmacy expertise to drive strategic sourcing; however, it does not function in a clinical pharmacy capacity.

Experience

Minimum of ten years in progressively responsible positions including supervision and program leadership preferred Willingness to effectively lead through an evolving and dynamic work environment, consisting of both in-person and remote working arrangements (Hybrid).
