Onward Search seeks a Director, Payroll Support to lead the strategic health and modernization of payroll and workforce management apps. You will steer the operating model, roadmap, and cross-functional collaboration with vendors, ensuring reliability and optimal user experience.

Responsibilities include incident resolution, team mentorship, and guiding complex implementations aligned with payroll cycles and business needs. A seasoned leader with deep knowledge of US/Canada payroll is essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in payroll systems, HRIS, or workforce management technologies.
• Hands-on experience configuring or implementing enterprise payroll/workforce platforms.
• Proven incident diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and technical resolution expertise.
• Strong understanding of US and Canadian payroll requirements.
• Experience managing technical teams, vendors, and complex projects with executives.

A temporary position for the Director, Payroll Support is available with our client, a leader in the payroll and workforce management industry. This opportunity involves managing the strategy, reliability, modernization, and support of payroll applications, including system architecture, vendor partnerships, and complex production issues to ensure operational excellence.

Director, Payroll Support Responsibilities:

• Own the technical health, operating model, and multiyear roadmap for payroll and workforce management applications.
• Set technology strategy and investment priorities to improve reliability, reduce complexity, and enhance user experience.
• Lead resolution and troubleshooting for complex payroll issues involving integrations, data, and calculations.
• Mentor and develop payroll technology teams, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Oversee payroll technology implementations, enhancements, releases, and operational initiatives ensuring alignment with payroll cycles and business needs.

Director, Payroll Support Qualifications:

• 10+ years of progressive experience in payroll systems, HRIS, or workforce management technologies, including leadership in critical production environments.
• Hands-on experience configuring, troubleshooting, or implementing enterprise payroll or workforce management platforms.
• Proven success in leading incident diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and technical resolution across applications and integrations.
• Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes and U.S. and Canadian payroll requirements.
• Experience managing technical teams, vendors, and complex project priorities, with strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
