Job summary

UNC Health in North Carolina seeks a Director, Patient Safety to lead system-wide patient safety and high-reliability initiatives across a growing network of hospitals and sites. This role designs and sustains the operating system for identifying risk, prioritizing actions, and ensuring effective corrective actions with executive sponsorship.

Qualifications

• Seven years of progressively responsible experience in patient safety or related field.
• Five years of management or senior leadership experience.
• Experience leading patient safety across multiple hospitals or campuses.
• Experience advising senior executives on safety matters.
• CPPS/CPHQ or related certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops system-wide patient safety strategy and governance.
• Leads high-reliability transformation and implementation roadmap.
• Identifies and mitigates safety threats across the system.
• Oversees safety event learning, RCA and learning from defects.
• Ensures corrective-action reliability and sustained improvements.
• Leads safety culture measurement and Just Culture initiatives.
• Partners with risk management, quality, infection prevention and HR.
• Acts as trusted advisor to executives and board.”
• Manages a distributed patient safety department across entities.
• Delivers training and capability development for safety staff.
