The Communications Division leads the development and execution of integrated communications and marketing strategies to further the mission of the National Geographic Society and enhance its reputation as a trusted non-profit organization and global brand. The division's creative and strategic teams develop campaigns, content, and media to promote the Society's strategic plan and priorities. It comprises six departments: Engagement and Marketing Strategy, Brand & Creative, Strategic Communications, Executive Communications, and Content and Editorial Strategy.
The Engagement and Marketing Strategy department focuses on defining and implementing strategies to deepen relationships with core audiences, market key products and programs, and support fundraising goals. They design digital experiences, outreach campaigns, and acquisition strategies based on audience insights.
Through an 18-month pilot starting January 2025, we will launch a partnership supporting sustainable agricultural practices, amplifying the work of explorers and storytellers to promote regenerative agriculture. Reporting to the Senior Director, Partnership Communications, the Director will collaborate with the Advancement and Program teams to create and execute communication strategies that amplify this partnership's impact. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, collaborative, and experienced in developing marketing programs that deliver business impact.
Target End Date: 6/30/2026
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Credentials in marketing, communications, or fundraising are a plus.
Experience: At least 10 years in communications, marketing, or related fields, with experience supporting multi-year branded partnerships of $5M+.
Skills and Knowledge: Experience partnering with senior leadership. Excellent writing, editing, and verbal skills. Creative leadership and teamwork skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
No direct reports. Salary range: $140,600 - $148,000. Benefits include health insurance, 401(k), flexible PTO, paid holidays, parental leave, and more. This is a hybrid role requiring presence at Base Camp two days a week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. and are encouraged to apply even if experience doesn’t match all criteria exactly.
