Job summary

Qualifications

• DO or MD degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board certification in Family Medicine (Preferred).
• Certification through the AOA or qualifications judged acceptable by the ACGME Osteopathic Recognition Committee.
• Eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in Maine.
• Two years of experience as a practicing physician, with prior teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve the Osteopathic Principles and Practice curriculum for the Family Medicine Residency.
• Ensure compliance with Osteopathic Recognition requirements and oversee the Osteopathic Recognition Track.
• Design educational experiences that integrate osteopathic philosophy, clinical reasoning, and hands-on OMT.
• Promote evidence-based osteopathic practices in patient care and resident education.
• Educate, train, and supervise Family Medicine residents in clinical and educational settings.
• Teach medical students and learners about Family Medicine within modern healthcare systems.
• Deliver didactic lectures that support residency learning objectives, including health equity topics.
• Create an engaging, inclusive, learner-centered environment promoting growth.
• Mentor and advise residents throughout their training.
• Evaluate residents and students using competency-based assessments.
• Provide direct observation and actionable feedback to learners.
• Assess competency in Osteopathic Principles and Practice.

Responsibilities

The Director of Osteopathic Education (DOE) Faculty, Family Medicine Residency serves as a key physician educator and leader responsible for advancing osteopathic medical education within the Family Medicine Residency Program. This role provides comprehensive clinical teaching, mentorship, and curriculum leadership while ensuring an exceptional educational experience for residents participating in the Osteopathic Recognition Track.

The Director of Osteopathic Education champions Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP), promotes evidence-based and patient-centered care, and fosters an engaging learning environment that supports resident development, scholarly achievement, and clinical excellence. Working collaboratively with program leadership, the DOE helps prepare the next generation of family physicians to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care while addressing health equity and reducing healthcare disparities.

Key Responsibilities

Osteopathic Education & Curriculum Leadership

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP) curriculum for the Family Medicine Residency Program.
• Ensure compliance with Osteopathic Recognition requirements and provide oversight for residents participating in the Osteopathic Recognition Track.
• Design innovative educational experiences that integrate osteopathic philosophy, clinical reasoning, and hands-on osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).
• Promote the incorporation of evidence-based osteopathic practices into patient care and resident education.

Resident, Student & Learner Education

• Educate, train, and supervise Family Medicine residents in both clinical and educational settings.
• Teach medical students and other healthcare learners, as applicable, in the theory, science, and identity of Family Medicine within contemporary healthcare systems.
• Deliver high-quality didactic lectures and educational sessions that support residency learning objectives, including topics related to health equity and health disparities.
• Create and maintain an engaging, inclusive, and learner-centered educational environment that promotes professional growth and lifelong learning.
• Serve as a mentor, coach, and trusted advisor to residents throughout their training.

Resident Assessment & Program Evaluation

• Evaluate Family Medicine residents and medical students using competency-based and milestone-driven assessment methodologies.
• Conduct direct observation and provide actionable feedback to support learner growth and professional development.
• Assess resident competency in Osteopathic Principles and Practice with a focus on clinical application and osteopathic identity.
• Contribute to Clinical Competency Committee discussions and residency evaluation processes as applicable.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Collaborate closely with the Program Director, faculty, and institutional leadership to advance residency program goals.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and advocate for osteopathic education within the residency and broader organization.
• Contribute to accreditation readiness, program development, and continuous improvement efforts.

Pay Transparency

Central Maine Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $168,043 to $210,000. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
