As Director of Origination, this role is responsible for originating new business across defined U.S. regions — developing customer relationships, communicating Deriva's story and product offerings, and structuring transactions across the company's operational and development portfolio. This role drives execution of origination activities, ensures profitability and growth, and manages commercial transaction risk. This role works closely with the Head of Origination and leads cross-functional deal teams through the full transaction lifecycle, from bid through close.
Lead execution of origination strategy aligned with Deriva's business objectives, within an assigned market or customer segment. Originate, structure, and negotiate PPAs and related offtake agreements with utility, C&I, and large-load counterparties. Secure long-term agreements with utilities and corporations to support financing and buildout of new renewable and storage projects. Develop PPA restructuring, blend-and-extend, and other structured product solutions to improve existing asset economics, including bilateral deal structures. Evaluate RFPs, lead bid strategy, and lead internal stakeholders (EPC, analytics, legal, development, finance) through bid preparation, competitive analysis, and procurement. Prepare approval materials, in tandem with the Head of Origination, outlining commercial strategy and key risks for bids, term sheets, and definitive agreements. Maintain an up-to-date deal pipeline and organized bid/transaction documentation.
Provide commercial input to inform greenfield development siting strategy and evaluate origination opportunities for prospective M&A targets. Support merchant-exposure planning as legacy PPAs expire, evaluating market timing, pricing, tenor, and risk allocation. Prepare proposals and presentation materials for customers and buyers. Monitor RTO market and regulatory developments and translate them into actionable deal strategy. Build and maintain trusted relationships with utilities, C&I customers, power trading firms, and market peers.
