Job Summary

The Director of Operations, Truck Service, is a senior operational leader responsible for driving performance across multiple territories. This role leads territory-level leadership teams to deliver consistent execution of company standards, operational excellence, and financial results. The Director champions strategic initiatives, fosters a culture of safety and accountability, and ensures alignment with company-wide goals. In partnership with cross-functional departments and executive leadership, the Director plays a key role in shaping the future of truck service operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and mentor Group Managers to build strong, effective teams.
  • Identify and develop high-potential talent for succession planning and leadership pipelines.
  • Conduct regular visits across assigned territory to assess performance, provide leadership coaching, and support operational excellence.
  • Promote a culture of trust, recognition, and accountability across all service areas.

Operational Excellence

  • Frequent travel to service locations across the region.
  • Drive consistent execution of operational standards, safety protocols, and service quality across all service areas.
  • Lead and enforce compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Champion the execution of best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (P&C, Safety, L&D, Facilities) to support operations within assigned territory.

Financial & Business Performance

  • Own the P&L for the territory; proactively analyze financial reports and implement strategies to meet or exceed revenue and profitability targets on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Monitor labor, inventory, and service mix to optimize performance across districts.
  • Support pricing strategies, promotional execution, and regional marketing efforts.
  • Enforce accurate reporting and strict adherence to financial controls.

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align territory goals with company strategy.
  • Develop and execute territory action plans to address performance gaps and capitalize on growth opportunities.
  • Drive the execution of territory-wide initiatives such as new service rollouts, capital projects, and process improvements, in partnership with leadership.

Customer & Brand Experience

  • Champion a customer-first mindset across all service areas.
  • Be customer obsessed with everything we do, drive clean, friendly and safe experiences that exceed expectations.
  • Ensure facilities, equipment, and personnel reflect the professionalism and pride of the TA brand.
  • Resolve escalated customer issues and support service recovery efforts.

What We’d Like to See

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in truck service, fleet maintenance, or a related industry.
  • Proven success managing multi-service areas or territory operations and leading large teams.
  • Strong business acumen, including experience managing budgets, P&L, and operational KPIs.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills to lead diverse teams effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and operational understanding of POS software.
  • Ability to travel regularly within the districts; travel requirement is approximately 50–75%.
  • Valid driver’s license

Typical Physical Demands

This role requires frequent verbal communication and strategic engagement with field leaders, and cross-functional partners. While primarily focused on leadership, planning, and oversight, this role occasionally visit service locations and inspect operations, which may involve standing, walking, or navigating shop environments. Lifting or moving objects up to 50 lbs may be required on rare occasions. Visual acuity is essential for reviewing operational data, facilities, and service documentation. All tasks are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment

This role operates in a dynamic field-based environment, including regular travel to indoor and outdoor service locations across all seasons. This role may involve occasional exposure to diesel fumes, mechanical noise, moving parts, and vibration during site visits. Workspaces may include contact with grease, oil, and other substances typical of a commercial vehicle repair facility. Proper safety protocols and protective equipment are provided and expected to be used during site inspections.
