What we need

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Operations (SYM - Greenbox) to lead operations across multiple customer sites within our distribution network. This key role involves developing high-performing teams, ensuring customer satisfaction, and driving operational excellence. The ideal candidate is results-oriented, possesses excellent interpersonal skills, maintains a strong client presence, and is committed to delivering world-class service.

What we do

The Director of Operations is part of the Customer Operations team, responsible for managing the daily operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling systems. The team focuses on operational excellence by partnering with onsite customers to ensure top-quality, safety, and system performance.

What you’ll do

  • Lead multiple warehouse and customer site operations, aligning with business goals and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) teams to validate capacity planning and scalability.
  • Drive KPI achievement through action planning, continuous improvement, and performance reviews.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with customer leadership through regular communication, performance reviews, and transparency.
  • Translate customer feedback into operational improvements, process changes, and initiatives, collaborating across functions to resolve issues and enhance service.
  • Analyze workloads and allocate resources to optimize productivity against benchmarks.
  • Oversee staffing, recruitment, performance evaluations, training, and team development.
  • Implement operational policies to ensure safety, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Lead special projects, including automation scaling and digital warehousing solutions.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets, coordinating with stakeholders for successful delivery.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Operations, Supply Chain, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in operations, logistics, or supply chain management.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience with automated systems, material handling, or digital warehouse technologies (preferred).
  • Proven success managing multi-site operations and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative, agile, and innovative culture.
  • Strong leadership, team development, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in resource planning, project management, and budget oversight.
  • Proficiency in analyzing operational data, identifying trends, and implementing improvements.
  • Understanding of compliance standards and safety protocols.

Our Environment

  • Remote, field-based position.
  • Travel required 50-75%, with valid driver’s license and ability to drive or fly to locations.
  • Ownership of expenses with reimbursement bi-weekly.
  • Work at customer sites for extended periods, including commissioning and installation.
  • Physical requirements include walking, reaching, working at heights up to 45 feet, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Compliance with safety protocols is mandatory, including PPE use and working in various environmental conditions.
